Default Dropshipping directories - ripoff?

I am trying to find dropshippers for the product that I want to sell. I have noticed that as soong as I type "my product name and dropshiper" results are filled with companies offering access to manufacturers and distributors of products, FOR A PRICE.

For example, check out doba.com
or operationdropship.com

Do you use these? I assume some of you must have tried it. Are they any good? Do you recommend any? For those of you who don't use these directories, how do you find dropshippers?
Cheers.

There are many people out there selling drop ship list but most of them are not TRUE drop shippers. I have found the best way is the long hard way.

1. Find the product you want to sell.
2. Get the Trademarked name from the product. like "Coleman" or "husky". Also if you find someone selling the product on the internet you can search the product number as most of the time people do not change this. Sometimes you can trace that number back to the manufacture or find a site that tells who the manufacture is.
3. Search who owns the trademark "http://www.uspto.gov/main/trademarks.htm" and click on search on the right side.
4. Contact the owner asking them how you can become a retailer of their products.

Another way of doing it is to get the latest manufactures list. Most of the time you can go to the library and it is in the reference section. Site down and find who makes the type of products you want to sell and contact them. Their are also many sites that have manufacture list but be careful and make sure they are actual manufactures.

Trade shows is another good way. I go to the Las Vegas trade show every year. This is where I get most of my suppliers.

Lastly make sure they are the manufacture!!!! "if you use a site like tradekey". Many sites use these to pretend they are manufactures when in fact they are not. I have talked to people who have done this and have seen orders for a few cases of products only to have these cases drop shipped from the real manufacture. "I know this to be true because I use to work with this guy and saw the order"

If you do not mind... What type of product?

Why deal with a middle man who marks it up so you can not make a profit?
Why don't I get a SMC account and call myself a drop shipper and resell their products? Oh wait people do that already.... No I would not use either one of them.

Hope this helps.

Well I have a few ideas, and I was thinking of the tracking method that you mentioned.

My ideas: gaming tables ex. pool, foosball.
I was also curious about 'topographical maps'.
and finally "thermo socks"

I guess you can more easily find manufacturers of maps. However, finding a manufacturer of "thermo socks" might be much harder, since there is not much you can find about the product on the socks package, is there?

I will PM you one that a friend of mine used. They sell alot of things. He no longer use's them as he does not run a site anymore. I was going to build another site but to be honest I never will.
Take a look at them.

You can also goto
http://www.brunswickbilliards.com/
And look at becoming a dealer. I'm not sure though if they drop ship.
