Some follow up questions to your comments:
  1. Do you prefer a SE to a directory / portal? The last days I have used dmoz, Google and the Yahoo directory and they give relatively good results, sometimes (naturally enough?) better than the SERPs .
  2. I think I know your answer, when I search for a book, I go to Amazon or a book SE like BookFinder4U - Compare book prices at 130 bookstores & Book finder for cheap books, discount books. When I make a more
  3. general unrelated searh, I use Google (wild card searh) or OneLook Dictionary Search .

  5. What is your SE work horse or preferred SE?
  6. Any idea of the future of search?
