Default can Dmoz kill a site?

One of my sites is a shoe / lingerie site. "%90 shoes %10 lingerie" I have taken great time in making sure all images have been air bushed so they do not show anything they shouldn't. After I submitted my site to Dmoz they put me in the Adult section. No big deal right? wrong. The Google directory get its feed from Domz. So I'm in the adult section there as well, and to top things off since I'm in the adult area they do not count as IBL's. I have checked some of my competitors and found they used the same stock images and they link to more adult sites then I ever would. I put in a request for change with Dmoz and I also went as far as to point out a few of my competitors thats listed on Dmoz but not in the adult area. I was really surprised when I got a response from one of the editors stating in short my site was put into the Adult by one of their editors and with it being a lingerie site he feels that's where it should be! He went on to also state that he has also looked at the others I mention but since they have already have been added by a different editor he will not change them. I did put back in the request hoping to get a different editor so I really do not want to list my site here "as they may see it" but from what they say all lingerie sites will be listed as adult and this just is not so.
I have even receive 1 "as of now" site stating they can not link to me due to I'm classified as a adult site. I do not know what to do next how can I compete with other sites that are not listed as a adult when I am.

1. With all this I have a few others questions since I'm a adult site in Dmoz and Google eyes will it hurt me if I start linking to Bad-neighborhood / adult sites since now I am one.
2. should I remove this site from Dmoz and try resubmitting at a latter time?
3. remove the site from Dmoz and try submitting a mirror site?
4. remove it from Dmoz and list it with Pmoz and masterMoz and be happy.

Well, look at the bright side, at least they're responding to you. I got a website in many years ago, haven't gotten another one in since, I've pretty much given up on them. Think maybe I'll try to become an editor......Even if the link doesn't count, I think you're still better off in the index particularly if you are also, as a result, in the google index. Don't forget yahoo and msn which will see them too....

what percentage of your sales constitute shoes / lingerie.

if lingerie is not a big percentage of your sales, then consider creating a new website for lingerie. and just sell shoes from the current website.

Or better yet, create a new website for selligng shoes, and sell lingerie from your current website, as it is already in the adult section in dmoz.

then the restrictions will not apply to you, right.

just a suggestion

You can't remove a site from DMOZ. Editors will only remove sites when they no longer meet the requirements for a listing

Just got an idea: you could try block traffic from DMOZ.
Then your site will look like a dead link, and eventually be removed...

Turn this situation around to work for you.

create a sub domain with a new shopping cart and sell shoes from that sub domain or vice versa.

then try to get the link from dmoz changed to the sub domain, if applicable.

or better yet, but another domain and sell shoes over there.

Right now I'm working on a mirror site that does not carry the lingerie. But it is a mirror so I'm kind of worried of duplicated content on the product pages and cart pages. I'm also working on a new lingerie site and I was thinking on linking the lingerie that is on the Dmoz adult classified page to the new lingerie site. and hope for the best

So I will end up with a Dmoz adult classified shoe / lingerie site, a mirror shoe site with no lingerie, and a lingerie only site.

because almost 75% of the content on both the stores will be different, as the content will be divided between the two.

so we can safely assume that it will not be treated as duplicate content.

the things is that most people want to get into DMOZ, you are trying to get out

I suggest that you only sell lingerie from your current website and make a new website for selling shoes.

move the current shoes to this new store, even if you just make a duplicate of the current store, change enough content so that it is not treated as duplicate content.

exactly my point, you should be happy that you are in, people have been knocking on the Dmoz door for years and cannot get in.

and martty, the only way to get in is if you know an editor at dmoz who either is the editor of the category you wish to be in, or can ask another moderator to consider your website for inclusion in the directory.

you can try the old fashion way and just submit it there, but most editors find websites on their own. The main reason is becase 99% of the websites submitted is spam / garbage.
