Default Is dogpile a pile of..?

I recently looked at dogpile.com after receiving a SEO newsletter that said it was giving the best results as far as users were concerned-

QUOTE: "Dogpile.com, the search engine that combines the top results from all the leading search engines, ranked highest in overall customer satisfaction among Internet users, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2006 Residential Online Service Customer Satisfaction Study."

So I had a look, and entered my main search phrase where I'm (currently) number 1 on Google. I was bemused to find my site at number 32 on Dogpile, with the majority of results above mine "sponsored by .." The link directly above mine was for a totally unrelated site to the searched for topic, that just happened to mention the phrase in a news article.

Clearly the results aren't a patch on Google's ;-) but it's worrying if the research is true - that is - users are very satisfied with most results being sponsored. Something's not right somewhere.

Hi Andy

Judging from Dogpile's homepage, they take their results from the top 4 search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN And Ask) and as far as I can tell, the better you are faring in all 4 of the SEs, the higher your listing. If you are only ranking well in Google and not the others, then this probably will bring your listing down somewhat.

For example, I don't think that I rank particularly well in Google but on Dogpile(.co.uk) I am 3rd for the key phrase "essex web design" as I also rank quite well in MSN, Yahoo and Ask.

I think Dogpile is definitely worth a look as it opens up the playing field for the rest of us. Although the name does suggest otherwise.

HTH.
