ROR Sitemaps

Hi all,

I don't know much about this xml file but it looks promising. Anyone know which engines are crawling this? What the url limitations are and whether you can use a gzipped version of the file?

To tell you the truth there doesn't seem to be much discussion about it being used by users or search engines. I say set one up as it couldn't hurt to do but also don't have high expectations as to what it might do for you.

I acturally run a ror search engine (rorseek.com) and these files do get picked up and indexed by quite a few engines. I have one on burf.com that is one of the most request files.

There are tools on either of the engines to create ror site maps and product feeds

Does ROR support sites with more than 5,000 urls? If so do they support .gz files? Otherwise the ror file could be huge.

I do believe it supports more than 5,000 urls, the downloaded software should do 10K.

I dont think compression has been added but I will email the designer

In answer to file sizes - I think you can split your data up into different files - so you have a file for people, products, jobs etc all linked from a sitemap file. Not sure how it works, or IF it works...
It sounded good to me so I had a go myself. I added an ror sitemap and other info to my site www.speyside-developments.co.uk
when I first uploaded the site in April 2006. I checked just now (July 2006) on www.rorseek.com - there was nothing there. Yet most other search engines have spidered the site. It sounds like a good idea in theory - or will it just get abused? Instead of keyword stuffing will we get ror stuffing?

The rorseek.com engine has been under more development and I will try and get your site indexed asap

There are different types of ror files and you can have multiple

Dom from www.rorweb.com (founder of ror) will be adding information about compressing the ror file to the FAQ on the website!

I'll see if Brian Pautsch will add the ROR sitemap export to his sitemap creator. It's the best bit of kit I've used for sitemaps.
