Chatmag has been in Google News for well over a year. We were the site that broke the news story last year when Yahoo! closed their user created chat rooms. And, we've been the lead on several other minor news items.

If you want to be included in either Google or Yahoo! News, I'd strongly suggest creating a News section, and post articles that are timely and relevent to the main body of your site. Articles that are thinly disguised promotional ads for your site won't work with either News service, unless it is a new service or product that would have web appeal beyond your site. It's a fine line, but what they are really looking for is journalism, complete with journalistic ethics.

Being included in the News sections can also gain credibility as one that is "in the know". It's a lot of work, and takes effort, but I believe that posting news articles is a good way to gain more visitors to your site, and once in, they may want to explore your site further.
