Difference in rankings, Google Datacenters
I know that Google uses different datacenters, and as a result, I can expect some variations in the results depending on which datacenter responds to my query.

Duplicate Content Vs Backlink Query
Just a question about submitting the same article to many article directories. You've all heard about about the duplicate content issue. I'm not really bothered by this since the worst I've heard is that Google will stick it in their supplemental index.

phpBB.com PageRank Drops from 9 to 5
I'm not sure how many of you noticed, but phpBB.com used to have a Google PageRank of 9, further back in 2005, it had even reached as high as 10, being one of the few (25 or so) sites that had a PageRank that high. The main reason is that every single phpBB board installed has a line in the footer: Powered by phpBB.

Indexing of Forbidden Content
Another thread (MSN Live Indexes Google Ads) is discussing the appearance of Google Adsense ads in the MSN/Live index. In theory, this should not be possible, as the URLs in question have been blocked through the application of robots.txt. (Line 15 of http://www.google.com/robots.txt specifically disallows the ads.) I can think of a few possible reasons why these pages would be indexed legitimately:

Educated Guess
My site has been #1 on Google for 2-3 searches over the last 3 yrs...in an increasingly competitive industry. There are a number of things I am doing to maintain that position but I was wondering just how much weight is given by Google in it's algorithem (sp) to a site that has been 'live' on the net.

Site update killed my SERP positions!
I recently (about 30 days ago), updated one of my oldest sites, floridafishinginformation.com. It's graphics and link structure hadn't been updated in years and there was a lot of broken links and it look quite dated.

Link Selling - Unethical or Just Unwise?
On another thread, The ability to pass pagerank. Can it be lost?, there was a suggestion that selling links is unethical.

Adsense/Adwords, Worth It Anymore?
Having my Google Adsense income drop this year by 75% sometime in June and not recovering in the last 6 months, I have to wonder if Google Adsense is even worth the effort anymore.

Switching Servers Effect PageRank?
I am considering moving to a new server for one of my sites. Right now the site gets good SEO in Google, Yahoo and others at around 400 visitors per day without advertising etc. If I moved the server would the SEO be affected in any way?

"Stop" words. They do make a difference to Google!
For the search phrase 'advice and tips on SEO' my site comes out #2 (Google is #1). This is the page title and H1 tag. Google tells me, though: "The "AND" operator is unnecessary". But if omit the 'and' I enter 'advice tips on SEO', my site drops to #3. Further, if I drop the 'on' (what I would consider another stop word), my site drops to #25. In MSN Live Search my site remains at #11 with all 3 variants.

Starting a new blog?
I've read that blogs are seen better by search engines, because of their continuous update. We've tried this thing before but we've got little results. We want to create a new blog. My main interest is to bring traffic for cratima website and new business for the company. Before we'll decide to transform this thought into reality I have some questions.

SEO and tableless design
I am basically a web programmer who also does website design, but I really dislike doing SEO. When I design a site, I am careful to tell my client of my lack of desire and expertise in SEO, and most times it doesn't matter to them. However I have one client whose site I redesigned several years ago, and who recently has been having problems getting clients.

Website blocked in China
I help manage the website development and SEO for a valve manufacturer. The website has a .eu domain. Within the site there are three language versions of the website. The client also owns several surrounding domains (.co.uk, .dk, .de) all of which 301 to the main .eu website.

Next Step Up From PayPal Shopping Cart?
I've got a small website selling little jewelry boxes. I'm using the PayPal cart. It's been working well for me. I would like to go a step further. I want to add gift certificates or discounts for some customers or items. I also have been worrying about selling the same unique item twice, so I want some sort of inventory control.

Ways around having to use frames
For years, I've had a page in as an Iframe because that is all I thought I could do. The bottom portion is a separate website that provides that quote engine service for us, but I need to have special content at the top so the user stays on our website. I've been thinking about adding a sidebar and footer as well, but I haven't been able to figure it out. I know it's not the greatest for SEO.

Why Is The Index Always The Landing Page?
I pride myself on the content of my website, but one issue that has been bothering me for a year now (since the site was up and running), is the fact that when Google's results pages come up and the term that has been searched for and found, it goes to the index or homepage. How does one get the visitors to the topic that they have searched for, or is it a better idea to have them do an internal search on your site for the content they are looking for?
