WebProWorld Members,

Wow, it has happened again. Google has allowed Microsoft to be first in providing a tool to SEO experts. With the latest being, the "Disavow Links" feature being heralded by Bing.

For years, the argument over the importance of spam links pointing to your website has been raging. Having spammy links isn't a good thing, but the question has always been - just how bad are they?

Google has never provided a means to block these links, but now Bing will allow it.

So now the question is even of greater importance.

Duane Forrester, Bing Webmaster Tool's (BWT) main guy said this of the impact disavowing links will have on your site, "These signals help us understand when you find links pointing to your content that you want to distance yourself from for any reason. You should not expect a dramatic change in your rankings as a result of using this tool, but the information shared does help Bing understand more clearly your intent around links pointing to your site."

He answered a particular concern on Twitter, with a user asking what disavowing would actually do. He answered with a little wink, wink, nudge, nudge response, "It helps us understand a webmaster’s intent – bought links? 4 shame. Disavow, perhaps u r changing?

"Of course, it's always hard to determine metrics when all you really have to go by is the subjective words. Just how "dramatic" a change should we not expect?

Of course, allowing users to have spam links not be a part of the formula can do nothing but benefit users. So, why Google, have you still not provided this option to users?

Wordpress Suggestions Needed

Alright this one goes out to all of the wordpress gurus out there. I am working with a flooring company and would like to move their site to a wordpress site. I was going to use the catablog plugin to help with displaying all of the products that they are going to be putting on the site. The only thing that I do not like is that is does not give many custom fields to help with internal site searching.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a good way to display not only the products, but also have the searchable on the site. I have looked into Estore plugins, but they will not be selling anything through the site so all of the extra stuff of add to cart and pricing would not be needed.

Requesting/Paying Google For 'Link Redirect'

Does anyone know if it's possible to request, or pay Google to create a 'Link Redirect?' I've had a website, and documentary trailer on another very popular site which retains thousands of hits. My web location is still listed on that old URL. Can I have Google create a 'Link Redirect', to my new location/URL, in order to not loose contacts/hits?

What J.C. Penney Should Have Done With Its New Marketing Plan

Earlier this year, U.S. retail chain J.C. Penney began completely revamping its business strategy. Under the leadership of new CEO Ron Johnson, the former head of retail at Apple, there were a lot of high hopes. The company began rolling out several changes including modifying its logo, creating a simpler approach to pricing, and also developing a new promotional strategy.
