As most of you know, Apple's World Wide Developers Conference is going on this week.

And we've already got a lot of great information from the conference.

Here are some articles I found interesting so far:

Link Text and Penguin

Most of my sites got a boost from Penguin, except for one. (I've never added more than 30 or 40 inbound links in a month to a site.) But I am surprised that the site I did the most link building with rose in ranking with Penguin, while another that I did less link building with, crashed. It was a general half page loss for many keywords, along with major crashes for two keywords - specifically keywords that I use in link text...

The loss dates are perfect for Penguin.

About a year ago, the site did get hacked and hundreds of pages were added. I suppose there could have been some bad links added from that, though I cannot see them in GWT.

It just doesn't seem like the site should have taken the hit from Penguin. Is it safe to continue link building embedding keywords in the link text?

Penalization for over-use of a keyword

Has anyone been penalized for the over-use of a specific keyword? I am hearing a lot regarding the need to vary the link profile, however I am not hearing of any real life examples.

Sites that are being penalized appear to be poor sites supported by a poor link structure. I fail to see how the big G could penalized a site for practising a process that they have advocated for so long. Obviously link profile will become a stronger ranking factor, however our agency are reverting to using the most abstract of anchor text and using the Google update to justify the use of this less relevant text links.

Your opinions would be appreciated.

SEO on our Website

We had an SEO work on our site about a year ago but of recent times we have seen our keywords drop off in ranking in Google. The main keyword is JUmping Castle Sydney or Jumping Castle Hire Sydney. We rank number one in Google for Jumping Castle NSW but not for the word "Sydney". Looking at our competitors the ones that seem to rank well for "Sydney" do not have "NSW" in their text.

Can anyone provide some comment on our site and where we may be going wrong ? Do we have too many products and that is why the main product does not rank well ? Should we be seeking to seperate some of our products/services into another web site that targets that product ? I look forward to your thoughts.

What Is Social Media Really Doing to Society?

In a day and age obsessed with social media and technology, it's hard to picture life without them. But, is that good or bad? Or neither? According to Andrew Keen, author of new book Digital Vertigo: How Today's Online Social Revolution Is Dividing, Diminishing, and Disorienting Us, the Internet, and particularly social media, is changing society in a way that worries him.
