WebProWorld Members,
It's the day that many enjoy, and few dread. Where you have to be wary of anything and everything you hear. Is Google really going to develop a space program, or is Microsoft going to shut down Bing in rememberance of Bill Gate's birthday? Yes, it's April Fools Day.
If there's one holiday that's evolved tremendously with the advent of the internet, it's April 1st. Websites really get into the spirit of the day, and some companies really take it to the next level in terms of fooling people.
Google's idea this year actually fooled me.
If you visit your Gmail page, you'll see an inconspicuous link titled "New! Gmail Motion BETA". Clicking on the link takes you to a landing page which looks legitimate. I didn't even bother reading what the new took was, and clicked on the try button. The joke is on me this year. Gmail Motion isn't real. Here's the description Google provides on the main page:
"The mouse and keyboard were invented before the Internet even existed. Since then, countless technological advancements have allowed for much more efficient human computer interaction. Why then do we continue to use outdated technology? Introducing Gmail Motion -- now you can control Gmail with your body. "
If I had actually paid attention I probably would have called shenanigans. If anything, my story shows the power of Google. I'll be up to try something even without knowing what it does. Well played, Google, well played.

HTM vs PHP vs No Extension
We have had a static site since 2000 with a .htm extension on the pages. We are going through a redesign and the company is using Wordpress. I prefer to leave the .htm extension since that is how the pages have been all this time. A directive would be added to process htm as php. I know Wordpress can handle the .htm extension well enough and it is easy to add a directive for the processing. We have a variety of links to www[dot]oursite[dot] com, www[dot]oursite[dot]com/index.htm and to many of the internal pages.
The company prefers to go with the default no extension and do a series of 301 re-directs. They believe there is less room for error and 301s should pass PR well enough. It would be configured for "pretty" urls. Our site gets from 500 to 1000 visits per day. We have six main pages that drive about 90% of the traffic.
To somewhat complicate things, we have an existing blog that does not use extensions, but uses WordPress' permalink settings to create "pretty" urls.
We are not moving the site, just doing a redesign. Most of the text is being duplicated for the main pages. If we go the way I want to go, we will need two installs, one for the site and one for the blog. If we go their way, we only need 1.
Am I being way to picky wanting to retain the original page names/extensions or should I trust that the 301s will do their job.

Overall though i guess i want opinions, am i going overboard? Maybe its just in bad taste? All opinions would be appreciated whether its a spelling error, design, or markup.. any insight to help me get my ideals and skills across would be greatly appreciated. I am still fairly new to the game as far as actual work i've put out for web sites, so i expect i still have alot to learn.

Mobile site with same content as main site, is there a risk?
Now, this may seem like a bit of a noddy question to some of you but maybe it's not.
If I have a normal website within which is a directory "mobile" which holds the pages optimised for the mobile web and I submit a sitemap for each of them independantly, will Google see that as duplicate content as they draw their content from the same database?
I would assume that, as they're on the same domain, it wouldn't?
www.mysite.com & www.mysite.com/mobile for example
Should I have one sitemap and structure it differently?
Should I have a single link from the main site to the mobile site to allow naturally navigation flow for the robots?

Removing Crawl Errors
GWT has recently discovered 170 crawl errors at one of my sites. The 404 is set up so all request are sent there. No problems.
My question is, when these urls are discovered in GWT, do I still need to remove them from the index, or will they sort themselves out due to the 404?
Here is an example:

Looking for Windows Managed Server
I've had a managed server with rackspace for many years now, but the price just keeps going up and up .... paying over $700/month now and they're dropping the free email package soon and looking to push me into managed email services which will add even more $ to my monthly bill.
I'm looking for recommendations based on your experience, not something you just googled - this is my lifeblood and I am nervous as heck to even be considering moving all of these sites but I just can't swallow any more increases to my monthly bill.
Sincerest thanks in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction.
