There's nothing better than to discuss corporate
drama prior to the weekend. If you've been keeping
up then you know of what's going on between Twitter,
TechCrunch, and the leaked documents.
If you haven't been keeping up, then read my note
from 07/15.
You're probably asking yourself -- why bother
bringing this up again? That's a valid question,
and we're discussing this because although I mentioned
the story itself, I didn't provide Twitter's response.
Which isn't fair considering the leaked documents
concern them; so let's see what they have to say.
In a nutshell, Twitter isn't too happy about TechCrunch
making the documents public. Initially
TechCrunch stated that they were given a green light
by Twitter to release the documents. Twitter's CEO
has tweeted a different story,
Evan
William's tweet: @TechCrunch @arrington
"we have been given the green light by Twitter
to post this information" What?! By whom? That's
not our understanding
Along with William's tweet, Biz Stone, co-founder
of Twitter also iterates that the release of the
documents
wasn't allowed.
After deliberating on both sides of the story
I believe I have come to conclusion. I might take
flak for this but I have to fall on the side of
TechCrunch. It's not the job of
the press to be "right" or "wrong"
on what they report. It's their obligation that
they tell the truth, be it from documents that were
leaked or any other form of information. If there
were documents that told of something shady Obama
was doing in the White House, wouldn't you want
to know about it? Would it matter how the information
came about as long as it was true?
I must say that Twitter and many of its die hard
fans have come off looking whiny by their reaction
to these events. What Twitter should be saying
is that they're looking into ways to beef up security
so something like this doesn't happen again. Or
say they're going to do everything they can to find
the hacker. Don't lash out at the media, they're
just doing what they're supposed to be doing --
hopefully telling us the truth.
Two Cents? Come on I know you have some.

HTML 5 & Internet Explorer 6 - IE6
So I read this article just now about IE6 and how there will be plenty of problems
with HTML 5 code. IE6
Must Die for the Web to Move On
What's your take? As developers how to we promote more compatible browsers to our friends, family and co-workers (or the boss)?
I use all browsers for testing and FireFox for browsing AND upgraded to IE8.
Could the problem with the masses not upgrading be due to the fact that many upon many people don't even know they can update?
Anyways, I just wanted to post a link to the article because it seemed pretty interesting.

I just launched a redesign of my site and I would love to hear some feedback from the SEO community.

I'm a freelance web developer (I offer basic SEO), so I'm curious to see if you all think I did a good job. If you have any comments on the graphics/layout, I'd love to hear those as well. |

Any replacement for Ms Excel using Web technology?
I am currently doing some research to upgrade one of my core products in my company. Currently, we are using MS Excel to create outputs (eg. listings and reports) for our core products. Using MS Excel, we are currently tapping on the function of pivot table creation to link to MS SQL OLAP cubes to create reports through drag and drop function.
As technology nowadays evolves to web based outputs, I would like to know whether is there any products from Microsoft that can cater for these needs with minimal programming that has been done through MS Excel on web platform.......
Appreciate all feedbacks and ideas.

Is my site spamming?
It's been a long time since I have been on the forums but I could really use a bit of advice on this one.
My boss has been approached by A N Other SEO company and been told that one of our websites has been blocked from G because it is 'spamming' the keyword 'mattress'.
The website is www.memoryfoamexpress.co.uk
- he had already given it to one 'SEO' company to optimize
and nothing happened and now he has another so many things
are being tinkered with by other people and I would really
like to know if what it's doing is really that bad. It
is selling memory foam mattresses so these words and phrases
do crop up - but will we every appear in the SERP's if
we never actually write them into the copy!?
Also, it has given me the opportunity to revamp the site with a nice new layout so its not all bad news, one of the SEO pros broke the existing layout in FF!
One thing I have seen them change is a page that was called memory-foam.php, this explained all about the material that is called memory foam. they have changed this to now be called mf.php, and called it 'visco-elastic' foam - which is technically correct but not what people actually call it.
I am confused because it just seems to be the opposite of what seems logical to me. A page about a material called memory foam, called memory-foam.php and titled 'memory foam' - can that really be spam!?
Any help or advice you can offer would be very welcome, will also update you with my new revision with your suggestions and let you know what results we get.

A question on duplicate content
I'm wondering how SEs and Google in particular view a single data source being used on a number of sites. To be more specific, a supplier providing a list of product codes and descriptions to be used by various sites. The sites would be independant and other content would therefore be different but the product information would for a major part of any dynamic pages which could be seen as a duplication.

Is Social Media Making Us Less Social Offline?
If you need to contact a friend or colleague, how do you do it? Do you go see them, call them, email them, or use some form of the social Internet? Although answers may vary, using the social Web as a primary form of communication is becoming a growing trend. A study conducted by Pew Internet and American Life Project found that 7 percent of Americans rely solely on the Internet for the majority of their social communication.
