Since the beginning of the internet, it has mirrored
physical life in the sense that there are safe places
to visit and some not so safe locales. For children
this idea is exponentiated as the online world can
in many ways provide dangers not seen in real life.
I think we can all be in agreeance that it's vital
that we make the internet a safer place for kids
to visit. The problem is devising a solution that
satisfies all parties involved. Some want a higher
grade of censorship, while others
see education and providing information
to parents and children as the solution.
I find my self in the later category. Much like
the world of video games, it's important that we
provide information to parents to help keep their
children safe from anything that could potentially
cause harm. Education is the key to creating a safer
environment for our kids.
I'm not alone in this thought as an organization
by the name PointSmart, has
released a set of guidelines for encouraging
internet education for our children and parents.
Here's a paragraph summarizing what their mission
is about...
"Expanding online safety efforts to emphasize
online smarts, through digital media literacy and
education programs that empower parents and teachers
to prepare kids to navigate the world of online
and digital media. These efforts will be significantly
improved with more focus on education, rather than
only on crime prevention."
The PointSmart organization has a key influential
member that I'd say could provide clarity to the
situation; Google. They've released
a statement regarding PointSmart's guidelines.
After looking at PointSmart and Google's thoughts
on the topic, how do you view online safety? What
steps should we take as we continue to make the
internet a safer environment ?
The ideas presented in the WebProWorld newsletter
editor's note do not reflect the thoughts, and
ideas of the WebProWorld community.

JS Conflict or Errors?
Hello, I am trying to add a lightbox feature to a page on my site and on my local server it works fine, but when loaded to my webserver it does not work.
The page: Island
Club Resorts - Belize Yacht Club, Belize Resort, San Pedro,
Ambergris Caye Vacation
The icons next to the room descriptions in the rates should open a lightbox with a couple of images.
I look at the JS errors and it indicates that a bit of JS used on my index page is what is causing the error, but not sure if that is the issue or not.
Any help please.

I've just started a new forum board called:
Car Forums Online and was wondering if anyone
could take a look at it for me. I'm brand
new to the forum world, so I know its not
perfect. Why choose a car forum when there
are so many others to choose from? Well, my
problem is that I like chatting to people
and discussing things that interest me....Cars! |

When is something seen as link farm?
I've got a set of sites that all deal with a particular related topic.
I'm looking to link them together to connect related information but am concerned that interlinking them all might look like suspicious to google.
So my question really is when does something start to look like a link farm? Is it at 10 sites interlinked, 100? 1000?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Linux
Linux Mail Clients
Before I give in to my fellow classmates and agree with their choices.....
And because I know I'll get an honest, straight forward, no holds barred answer here... (thankfully!!)
I need advice on which Linux mail client is preferred and why? I'm leaning toward Mozilla but...only because the stupid book gives you fifty pages on it, and one on everything else.
What's the best choice? Why? And... am I going to play follow the leader?

Is Twitter Scaring Google?
There have been multiple reports that Twitter could replace Google. Twitter has quickly risen to become one of the most powerful sources on the Web. In 2008 alone, Compete found that the microblogging service grew 752 percent. Do you think this might make Google, the long-standing Internet giant, a tad-bit nervous or jealous?
