WebProWorld Members,

Before our world wide web took over things, the world of design was a much simpler place. All you had to do was think outside the box, come up with creative ideas, and wow your client.

Unfortunately, when the internet came along many designers found the shift to the online world a rough road. Many designers, including ones I know had to go back to college just to learn the ropes of web design.

For those who've been or are in the web design business, know what it takes to be successful. There's this odd balance between aspects of design, accessibility, and SEO. Having knowledge about SEO isn't always a necessity, but can help beef your resume if you know your way around.

It's not good policy to completely focus on a creative design, and leave ease of access, and SEO behind. You could end up with a very creative site that only the web savvy will know how to navigate. On the flip side though, a creative design helps establish a professional and dedciated look to a site. If design is ignored, you could have a site that looks like this. I know they preach "simple is better", but there's a difference between simple and atrocious design.

When explaining web design to others, I always refer to the 'yin and yang'. You really can't have one without the other when creative a website. The creative look, and accessibility should go hand and hand. It definitely is easier to say than do, but sometimes a site does pull it off. Even that site isn't perfect. The text is too small. It shows however that you can create something pleasing and creative to the eye and still have a layout that users can navigate through easily.

Learn the yin and yang my friends.

Is it Too late for No Follow Tags

Is it Too late for No Follow Tags
If you have a site that is over 4 years old and has a lot of outbound links on the homepage, is it too late to set them to no follow. 90% of them are of an affiliate kind, to other sites that are in the same category/relevant sites. The site has ranked decently over the past couple of years, but has fallen off a bit.

Will turning these outbound links into "no follow" tags give any boost to the page? Could this possibly hurt the site since these links have been this way for a very long time?

Site for Review http://www.decentbanners.com/

Finally after one month of continuous working on the design and paying a handsome amount for the coding I am going to announce my website with a complete new and pro look. I am now having a forum for my website where users can ask questions.

Google Cache Displays Outdated Data

I have observed that Google cache doesnt display correct data. For example if you do cache:yourwebsite.com you would see the latest cache results from Google.

On several occasions I have observed that a new text/link gets crawled on a particular webpage while searching Google, but the Google cache displays data which is 5-7 days old.

Do let me know if anyone else has observed this thing.

Primary Domain redirect to folder

Ok, I have a Unix style host with apache/cpanel for administration like bluehost, hostgator, siteground etc.

My problem is the same with all these hosts and the dependency to have a primary domain mapped to /public_html but subdomains and addon domains can map to folders no problem.

All these hosts refuse to manually edit the httpd.conf file so I can resolve my primary domain to it's own folder.

I tried using .htaccess to essentially do this for me and I think it would work fine except that my site is written primarily in php which causes the dynamic links to look messy.

Adding SSL to existing non e-comm site

We have a site that has been active for 3 years and generating consistent profits lines and constant traffic. The site has never had SSL certificates partly because we have been test-marketing the market niche. It is now time to get serious and we are about to apply SSL to the existing site. Since there is no e-commerce platform that can accommodate the unique attributes of our requirements, it is our intention to change the links to the necessary pages within the site from an http: location to an https: location as well as do a 301 redirect in the .htaccess to change the server direction. Is this all that needs to be done once we have the SSL certifucate properly added to the server or is there something that I am missing?
