WebProWorld Members,
Saw this the other day. Thought it was pretty neat. I would like to have one. Haha. It would be even better if you could see through the whole thing though. Don't ya think?
Our featured post today comes from dvdstar. His brother is looking to launch a new website. He is based in Australia, however he would like the website to have a global reach. DVDStar has advised him to register a .com domain instead of a .com.au. The confusion begins with how Google will treat this site in global searches (e.g. using google.com), instead of say google.com.au. How will having a .com hosted in Australia affect the potential of the site to rank for his chosen keywords in global searches? Click here!
As for the remaining posts, the first wants to know if it is bad practice to link to a page from itself? The second needs advice on taking over email management. The third wants to know your priorities when it comes to hosting.

How To Attract Global Traffic?
My brother is looking to launch a new website. He is based in Australia, however he would like the website to have a global reach (i.e. he ultimately hopes to archive good keyword rankings in global searches). Therefore as a start I have advised him to register a .com domain instead of a .com.au
The confusion begins with how Google will treat this site in global searches (e.g. using google.com), instead of say google.com.au
For instance, I believe that if the site is a .com but hosted in Australia, then Google will look at the IP address of the host, determine that it is hosted in Australia and assume that this is the target market.
So question 1: How will having a .com hosted in Australia affect the potential of the site to rank for his chosen keywords in global searches? I have previously been advised to register a .com for him and host it in the US. However, surely Google will then see from the hosts IP address that the site is hosted in the US, and assume that the US is the target market instead? So this doesn’t really help.

Hosting Issues Taking Over Of Email Management - Help!
I work for a small studio and am largely in charge of the technical side of web development, hosting and IT management. As we have built up the business we have acquired a number of larger clients who require other services from us than digital design and development.
Now I am in the situation where I am essentially a PHP developer, but I am spending more and more time working on the hosting side (which we offer as a service). More and more people have been asking for a complete in-house service from us, but I have very little training or knowledge regarding servers, server settings, email and DNS management.
So far our hosting provider has been excellent in terms of technical support, but I feel I should not need to rely on them and need to get some training or advice myself.

Open, Informal Hosting Survey
I would be interested to know what WebProWorld users have to say about their priorities when it comes to hosting - what are your top priorities?
What technologies are you using now? If you've switched from a particular operating system, control panel, application, et cetera why did you switch?
