WebProWorld Members,
I'm sure you have all heard about the plane crash by now. I am just so glad everyone made it out. I can't imagine how scary it was! And, how cold the water and air was in New York. It is just amazing how good the pilot did and how in control he was! Hope everyone has a good weekend! Go out and spend some time with your family and friends! :)
Our featured post today comes from joncase. Jon says his client's Google ranking has disappeared from page 1 and all search results for his main keyword phrase. (It ranked there for a few years.) He has found a big B2B site with a PR three points higher, that has duplicated the text from his homepage on three of its listings pages. All had false contact information except the link to his website. Should he change the text on his homepage to get rid of the duplicate content?

As for the remaining posts, the first discusses the future of SEO. The second is looking for a reputable shopping cart. The third has some questions about Google Internal Url Rewriting.

Fight Duplicate Content With New Content?
I have a client whose G ranking has disappeared from page 1 and all search results for his main keyword phrase. (It ranked there for a few years.)
We have found that a big B2B site with a PR three points higher than his has duplicated the text from our homepage on three of its listings pages all with false contact information except the link to our website.
My G WebmasterTools tells me all is well with his site, all pages indexed, sitemap OK, etc. We have reported the infringement to G and they have replied that they will look into it.
Should we jump and change the text on our homepage to get rid of the dup, or will this thwart the efforts to really fix the problem of the B2B site. Thank you for your suggestions.

Search Engine Optimization Forum The Future of SEO
With all the big changes in search engines in recent time, we are witnessing one of the biggest shifts in the way search engines have been serving their results in the history.
Google is becoming "social" and semantic, serving you different results for same query if you are logged in and if you are logged out of your Google account. Not to mention the voting system.
YouTube took over long held 2nd place in search industry from Yahoo!, now who would say that the big Y! would be kicked off the throne by a website that is not in search industry at all

Google Discussion Forum Google Internal URL Rewriting
Browsing the Google website looking for information on redirects, I came across a document referred to as "Administering Crawl: Monitoring and Troubleshooting Crawls with Googlebot Mini". It turns out the document contains some detailed information about how the Google Search Appliance handles various situations when crawling the web.
One interesting part of the document covered a technique used by the crawler to avoid duplicate content.
Essentially, the bot has a database of query string parameters that are to be considered redundant and removed from requests, based on the server type being accessed, as well as certain other URL elements that should not be processed during crawls. This ranged from removal of a wide variety of known session IDs, to the statement that the bot should never request /index.html or /index.htm - the request will always be edited to only ask for the root of the folder.
