WebProWorld Members,
Hey guys and gals. How's everything going? Since England isn't playing today,
it seems the mood around here is a little lighter. I haven't seen that many starred-out
words and frowning smilies in a while.
Congratulations are in order to the Miami Heat for "winning" the NBA
title last night. That's about all I've got for that. Moving on to the update:
We have a search engine flavored issue for you today, so that should make for
some good discussion, especially the lead post.
Do you guys think Google is losing their hold (death grip?) on being the number
one search engine, marketshare-wise? Well, not according comscore's
latest study. But what do you think? They've certainly taken a beating in
the forums when it comes to the BigDaddy update, regardless of what Matt Cutts
posts on his blog. But the fact remains: Google, or the name Google, is synonymous
with search. MSN and Yahoo are not and I'm not sure they can ever overcome this
little indiscretion. However, I am curious about what you guys think about it.
Let us know.
This seems like a good stopping point for now. You guys enjoy the issue and be
sure and contribute where needed. Have a great evening and we'll see you tomorrow.
Be then we'll know whether or not the US salvaged their World Cup opportunity.
Take care,
| Chris

Google
Losing #1 and Market Waits for the New Leader
You can agree or dispute it, but more and more people lose faith in the quality of Google's searches. Posts in many forums speak as the best prove for it.
This wave of losing faith started with webmasters
who were the first to notice strange behaviour. Then site
owners who often don't have much technical talents but who pay money to
get better exposure for their sites in Google.
I think soon this might come down to simple searchers who use Google as the best searching mechanism in the world - AND LOSING SEARCHERS IS A THREAT for Google as business.

Mike's
'Little Problem' with MSN's Live.com
I haven't actually tried to use Internet Explorer much the past few months. Haven't
really needed to. Having long since joined the ranks of the Firefox converts I
rarely find the occasion anymore to have to click the IE icon.
Sunday afternoon however, I found myself doing just that -clicking the IE icon. I don't know why or what or how it happened, but it did. As it loaded I noticed I had my homepage set to be their new Live.com page.
Of course that meant I'd likely set my homepage to Live.com on IE earlier this
year after one of the search engine conferences. And since live.com didn't work
so swell in FireFox I naturally would have put it on IE. It was about then when
I noticed that my browser had stopped responding. Then it dawned on me and I spontaneously
recalled the details of the last time I'd tried to run Live.com on IE.
It crashes my browser. Read

Shed
Some Light Please
We currently have 10s of pages optimised for BlackBerry
- covering different keywords. what I don't understand is, how could this site,
be ranking as 1 in Google for just ONE simple page that hardly has any keywords
or content relevant to BlackBerry phones?
http://www.2step-garage.co.uk/blackberry_phone.htm
Is it because they have on the right hand side of their page the Google ads? Is
that why they have better ranking? Read

Google
Links List
When I use the Link: command to find Google's list of links to my site, It only gives 9 external links, whereas I know that there are more than 200.
I read somewhere that this is normal, i.e., that they always only show a small fraction of the total number.
It seems to me that such incomplete information is basically worthless. Why do
they do it that way? And how do they determine which links to show? Read
