WebProWorld Members,

Hey guys, how is everyone? I hope you all had a great three-day weekend (those of us lucky enough to). While we have been gone, it's obvious you guys spent a great deal of time here, judging by the "New Posts Since Your Last Visit" link, which was pretty full when I got here this morning. That's really great to see.

Hopefully, today's update will provide you all with the necessary content to keep up such quality forum attendance and participation. Much like Friday's issue, the search engine-related forums received the bulk of the traffic this weekend, so a lot of today's update comes from these sections.

However, we do have an interesting article from Jason that looks at a new method of advertising for the mobile phone industry, an area many consider to be the next frontier for marketing. The advertising method being introduced by Virgin Mobile US is tied to their minutes renewal program.

To participate, customers watch advertisements and then take tests on what they've just watched. Those willing to go through this process will be awarded additional minutes to use. Is this something you could see yourself taking part in? Or would you opt for the traditional method of charging minutes to a credit card? Let us know what you think.

Well, I think this is a good stopping point. Enjoy the issue and let us know if you have any questions or comments. Take care,

| Chris |

I'm Getting Really Fed Up with Waiting... All Search Engines
I'm Getting Really Fed Up with Waiting...

It takes so long for the search engines that matter to re-index and recognise any changes in your sites. MSN is about the quickest and Google... well, if you're prepared to wait, you're looking at several months before your ranking gets changed or you see any major changes in how it views your site.

I've got inbound links from recognised and higher PR sites. I have Google sitemaps. My sites are accessbile, relevant and follow useability guidelines... Is this lag a ploy to make you spend more on PPC?

If, like me, you have relevant sites but not a lot of traffic, is there a way to speed this process up?  Read Replies

Hidden Content Allowable?

I've assumed, based on "Google's Quality Guidelines" that hidden content is not acceptable when attempting to obtain good rankings in Google or other engines. However, I've been monitoring some competitor's sites and found several using this method on their main index pages to obtain good rankings.

In one case there's a splash page with a language redirect and the other two are flash splash pages with redirects. In all 3 cases there are keywords hidden in the index page off to the bottom and colored to match the page background. The catch is they have no qualms about using their competitor's names in this hidden text and as a result they get a top 10 listing for someone searching the competitor's name.

One of the 3 of these had (more about that later) links to their content within the hidden content.   Read Replies

Can a 301 Redirect Cause an Infinite Loop?

Earlier I asked the same question about 301 redirection to one of my seniors in our office, and following was his reply:

"The default page is index.php so if you type site name with or without index.php it will going to call index.php itself. The solution of redirection won't work because it will get a infinte loop of page calling and the page won't load."

Will it get in an infinite loop of page calling? Neither I understood it nor agreed with him. So I had to post this dilemma here.  Read Replies

Mobile Ad Model Uses Attention As Currency

Virgin Mobile USA is breaking new ground in mobile advertising by announcing its plan to offer customers a way to earn free talk time on their phones by watching ads - and taking tests afterward. SugarMama, as the program is called, will debut on June 14.

Pre-paid customers, when running low on minutes, will be able to boost their time by up to 75 minutes, earning one minute of talk time per 30-second commercial message viewed. The customers then fill out a survey about the product advertised.

Microsoft's Xbox 360, PepsiCo's Diet Mountain Dew, and American Legacy Foundation's anti-smoking "Truth" campaign are tapped to be the first sponsors participating in the program. Customers will also have the option of receiving SMS advertising with promotions and discounts.  Read Replies

Important PPC Software Decision

We're looking into a PPC Software to help us manage our list of approximately 100 keywords. (in the future maybe more). The reason for this is ... bids change and we want to be able to secure 1st Page position on Google Adwords even when we sleep. :-)

I am looking into these companies:

Bid Hero (ClickTracks)
Keyword Max
Atlas One Point
Bid Rank

All 4 have very different prices and we're a bit confused at which one to use. I hope I can get some feedback here. Which one have you used???  Read Replies

What or where do you recommend for going to find unique header graphics? I really don't want to use templates as I like to make my own and I want something unique.
