Default MSN PR

Ok I've always heard about people saying the best way to get traffic is to get many links to your site so you can get a high PR in google. But what about MSN? do they go by PR as well? if so how can i check a MSN PR? and how often do they update PR, and what do they base PR on links like google or something else? Please give me all info on optimizing my site for MSN! Any and all advice will be appreciated!

Default Best advice

The best advice I have for MSN is to optimize for Yahoo AND Google.

They don't use PR in a numeric sense, however they use inbound links and relevant keywords in the links sort of like Google, while also relying on on-page SEO similar to Yahoo as a major factor. They also use keywords in the URL itself as a factor.

Basically, do it all and do it well and MSN should reward you. If your optimization has been kept up site-wide for Y & G already, then your guess is as good as mine.

Brian.

Default Consider Researching MSN Directly

I'm lazy and not afraid to plagerize, so here's the scoop straight from MSN taken from
http://search.msn.com/docs/siteowner...iteRanking.htm

About site ranking

MSN Search site ranking is completely automated. The MSN Search ranking algorithm analyzes factors such as page content, the number and quality of sites that link to your pages, and the relevance of your site’s content to keywords. The algorithm is complex and never human-mediated. You cannot pay to boost your site’s relevance ranking; however, we do offer advertising options for site owners.

Each time the index is updated, you may notice a shift in your site’s ranking. As new sites are added and some sites become obsolete, previous relevance rankings are revised.

Although you cannot directly change your site’s ranking, you can optimize its design and technical implementation to enable appropriate ranking by most search engines.

Default PR confusion

You are confusing the PR with the algorythm.

PR is something that is exclusively Google's and although it used to play an important factor in SERPs, it now no longer does because it was too easy to manipulate (ie you could buy a single link from a PR7 site to get PR6 on your site, which of course you would only get from 1000s of free links).

Nowadays PR only serves to tell other web masters that you are worth linking with. No PR = No links. They find out your PR by looking at their Google tool bar, NOT MSN.

With good PR you find it easier to get links. All that MSN sees (and is concerned about) is the number of ibls you have (among other lesser factors).

Thus, get good PR to help you get links and you should rank well in Google and MSN. The only difference is that MSN tends to count all links into a page regardless of where they come from, while google usually only counts one link per site and gives less weight to insite links
