Default Domain Forwarding - Will It Hurt Your Original Results

Hi!

Tried to find a previous thread on this - but so far I've been unsuccessful...

I have an existing business site that does OK in the rankings for pertinent keywords/phrases. I'd like to purchase another domain and forward it to a page deeper within my site to flesh out another related topic that is germane to my original site's services, but offers additonal and other services.

How will most search engines view this? Will it hurt the rankings of the original site? Anything else I should be aware of?

thanks for all input!

If you simply point a new domain name to an existing page on an existing site than you'll get caught for duplicate content. That can get both your domains potentially banned in the search engines.

If you have enough content to warrant an entirely new site then I would move the content to a new domain. Otherwise, if you still feel you must redirect that domain to an existing page on your site then the best thing to do is to set up a 301 Permanent Redirect from the new domain to the existing page of your site.
