You would neeed to indicate which Site and what keywords or phrases to get a response.

Default Drop in MSN

Yup, actually, one of our clients just experienced the same thing. We're in the process of revamping his site and it seemed that MSN (as did Google and Yahoo) picked the changes up almost immediately and Hawkeye Bird Control was at the top for 'bird control canada', 'bird control ontario' as well as for 'pest birds' in the same regions.

As of Thursday, their listing has dropped considerably in MSN, and the OLD pages show up, not the new ones.

Default Website gone from MSN after # 1 ranking for 4 years

Good Morning,

Our website, ashevillecozycabins.com, was # 1 on MSN for several years with keywords Asheville Cabin Rentals. On 2/22/05, it dropped from sight..nowhere to be found. I resubmitted and was crawled again with no change. I am still good on yahoo and google.

I can be found on MSN by typing in certain info on the site like my phone # and e mail, but there is no response when using my keywords. (Asheville Cabin Rentals Jacuzzi Fireplace)

Any volunteers to take a look or any general advice?

Dave,

Welcome to WPW.

You have a lot of competition in the area for vacation rentals.

Your Title and metatags need quite a bit of work. Your Title doesn't mention "Vacation Rentals". Primary search words and phrases are important in the Page Title.

Your keyword metatag is way overstuffed and even spammy in that there are multiple iterations.

You may want to split your page up into several pages.

You should try posting in the "Submit your Site For Review" Forum here. They will help you out over there.

I get the same thing

my listings jump around from page 1 to page 5, and anywhere in between, with regularity

MSN seems to place content #1 in their alogrithm

Google seems go to the other extreme, as long as you have lots of backlinks, you get high listings even without content---it can be hard to find actual info if you are looking for content through google

I know this is not true in all cases at google, but there have been several keywords I have researched where I had to use Yahoo and MSN to find any content

I have not noticed too much fluctuation in MSN results, but I am fairly confident that they definitely favor content over links.

Does anyone know how often MSN updates their index?

Keep an eye on the number of results that are returned when you search for your KW. In the results that I track, MSN is still adding to their database.

What you may be seeing is the timing between the addition of new pages to the db, the indexing of new pages, and then ranking these new, indexed pages through the algo.

Newly indexed pages may be showing up in the top SERP's for a while (kind of like G with new sites), and then get weeded out based upon the ranking factors.

On the other hand, for the KW's that we track, all of our client sites have been rock steady throughout any additions to the db. New sites are getting top 20 results within a few weeks and moving to the 1st page within a month or so (once the majority of the pages are indexed).

_____

I believe that is a key observation... The Total Returns for the keyphrases we watch in MSN increased between 238-461% during the December 04/January 05 period.

During that time they spidered our Sites harder (frequency and depth) than Yahoo and Google, and they still are!

I think they most update at least weekly. I have made some mods to my sites and when I check them they are in the engine within a few days.
I disagree that links are not very important and content weighs heavier. With my lingerie keyword in my sig below, there are 10 sites ahead of me and they dont seem to be very optimized.Yet they rank ahead of me. I keep tweeaking my site but I havent cracked the top 10 yet.
