Default MSN Beta feed into main search now Live!

MSN Beta feed into main search now Live!

MSN has removed the beta-wrap from its proprietary search engine and is now showing self-generated results at MSN.Com. Beta results had started bleeding into MSN listings over the past three weeks but since Sunday (Jan 16), the .COM (US / Global) version of MSN has consistently mirrored those found at MSN(beta). Regional versions of MSN continue to display Inktomi (Yahoo owned) / Regional partner generated results

I don't think it's gone fully live yet. Is there anybody who's not seeing the beta results?

Searching on my 3 word keyword phrase, without ""s,
returns these results:

Google 6,260,000 Pos#>1000 (in quotation marks #150)
MSN 249,750 Pos#1

Huge disparity on both counts?!

My site has been up for 4 months.

Default Use of Zeal / Looksmart Results

Comparing early versions of MSN Beta to the final version now up on MSN.com, it seems that MSN have integrated Zeal / Looksmart Directory results into the mix and afford Directory pages good MSN page ranking.

My pages:
http://www.viney.com and
http://www.viney.com/DFV/dfv.html
ranking better now than with beta (and both are listed in Looksmart)

Anyone else spotting similar results?

I don't think being in Zeal/Looksmart makes much of a difference to MSN. A site I manage is in their directory along with DMOZ and many others but it still gets dreadful ranking from MSN. A "site:" search shows that all of my site's pages are indexed, but none of them are showing up in reasonable searches.

Keyword phrases that give the site #1 placement in Google and top-5 placement in Yahoo don't pick up the site at all in MSN. There is something bizarre about thier indexing patterns that I'm still trying to figure out. No luck so far.

Default Wierd results

I find the results disapointing. In search terms I use frequently I found that the top 3 are the same company listed only with different urls. That same company again listed 3 more times in the top 20. The majority of the results from overseas.

I don't think that zeal/looksmart have that huge effect on msn beta. It's just a link on a "quality site.

Default I'm With Blayne

I agree with Blayne - the new MSN is not the Google-crusher that they were pushing it to be.

I'm still in love with Teoma over anyone else, call me crazy.

Our traffic had been improving steadily for months, and suddenly, on Feb. 2 it dropped to less than half of what it had been. Nothing had changed on the site at all. My theory is that we were ranked well in the old MSN search index, but are apparently either not in the index for the new MSN Search when it came online, or their new algorithms don't like our site much for some reason(s). Since we run Google Adsense ads, I was wondering if MSN dropped us to penalize their competition. Has this happened to anyone else? And does anyone have a clue how to get relisted with them?
