The techpreview appears to be down for me aswell...

Yesterday, Ballmer said "We will catch up, we will surpas" when talking about Google and Yahoo. See the reuters report here.

Interesting times ahead eh?

Man! I was doing so well on the new MSN and then today I got bumped to the second page for all of my major keywords. Just my luck, a day before the launch and I go from top of the heap to the dreaded second page.

Techpreview was up when I checked, but it gave me such junk results. I tried a search for "insomnia", and 9 out of top 10 results were basically the same one-page site, all different urls. If those are the results MSN Search will show tomorrow, I have to say they'll have to do much better than that to compete with Google.

Default still down:-)

I've just checked MSN Preview and it is still down...But from my perspective it's hardly possible to see something really more innovate or revolution then GG does these days.

It's not about money, it's about New Ideas and Time to develop them. Time will see...

I checked the preview a few times today and every time the result is different. My SERPS moves 3-4 positions up or down every several hours.

I can't see much difference between http://search.msn.com
and http://beta.search.msn.com at this point in time

OK, now I get:

"This site is temporarily unavailable, please check back soon.

Didn't get the results you expected? Help us improve."

(Well ... it does say beta)

It's live... just did some searches all centering around the term 'part time jobs' and the results look good, similar to Google results.

Looks like they have a long way to go before that goes public doesnt it? Funny thing is that on the google blog they say that MSN plans to go to public in 2.5 months...!

Default my guess

The main difference I can see at SERPs at Google, MSN and MSNbeta is a total web results quantity which they return fo the same keyword I'm using.

flash animated website designs (pretty target keyword)

MSN returns - 27878
MSNbeta returns - 785,165
Google returns - 978,000

general keyword - animated website

MSN returns - 742758
MSNbeta returns -13,753,427
Google returns - 8,270,000

My thoughts about these SERPS comperation

1. MSNbeta has much bigger index then MSN has

2. My site is number one for both keywords at MSNbeta and as I can see it's because these keywords are at my site title and MSNbeta considers it as a key factor. But as long as I can't see the same sites which Google returns me (with these keywords within titles) at MSNbeta SERPs I believe MSNbeta index is smaller then GG index.

3. It considers keyword existence at title as a heavier factor then current MSN version

3. Perhaps I've lost at my assumptions, but I think MSNbeta has a simpler ranking algoritm then GG has and potentially when it'll go from beta to replace current MSN it'll be a bit easier to get higher ranking at MSN then at current MSN and difinitely easier then with Google.
