How to promote a story blog?

I have a client who has a blog which is really a story, written by an imaginary author. It's an offbeat comedy, a bit alterative... the question is, now its setup and running how best to get people visiting it...

It's not a commercial project, so there isn't an advertising budget for it.

Any ideas welcome!

Make it a commercial project:

1. Competition will IMO be a better driver and necessity is the mother of invention.
2. If it need to be an idealistic / free project, write for the web

Best way you could do this in my opinion is utilizing social media marketing techniques. Try connecting with influential people on social networks and hope they will take some time and read the story, recognize the quality and share it with community.

I may get some flack from saying this. But I am a published author, and my book blog is in my sig. I have created a key word rich site. It's all about the basics, longtailed URL page titles, linking the pages. Adding content, using cache via 'keywords' - I've actually been offered a vast wedge of cash for it. It beats Amazon on New Historical Fiction Books' and on Yahoo it's in 2nd spot for New Fiction Books. It's become my retirement fund.

You could write a couple of different reviews about the story. Then post them to review sites and social networking media.

MySpace FaceBook and Twitter would probably be great mediums.

You could even set up a twitter account as the character in the story and tweet certain parts of the story as real life events. Just mention somewhere that it is fictional and to go to your blog for more.
