Default Is There a "Directories Directory"?

If there is such a thing it is potentially very useful to all of us who operate outside the USA, as we could simply click on our region and start submitting.

In the UK, and (I am sure) every region outside the USA, because a good 50% of traffic to a site will be USA-based (and another good chunk will be from absolutely everywhere), the person responsible for making sure a website gets seen, if the company that site relates to cannot operate outside its own region, will always be under pressure to generate traffic from their own region by their Boss/Client.

For the above reason and reasons relating to recent fundamental changes in search engine structure, and my feeling the need to return to basics and take a "deep and wide" approach to my submissions (I admit that because I have had a lot of success with the major search engines I had become complacent about the smaller search engines and directories - error) I decided to look at UK-based minor directories and search engines with a fresh eye.

I went to Google and bashed-in [UK directories], limited the search to UK results and sat back. My journey through the results was an enlightenment.

My main reason for targeting directories was that I was looking to increase external links for my client sites that had good Google page rank (if you didn't know - directories tend to serve pages with normal hyperlinks that can be followed by spiders and tend to list you on a page that is relevant to your site). I found lots! Many had excelent page ranks.

I didn't just find directories. Following the links from some of these I found minor search engines and useful sites.

One of the most useful UK-specific sites aimed at webmasters lives at www.all-uk-search-engines.co.uk

This site would be particularly useful to someone new to the Search Engine Marketing and Website Promotion scene who had a commitment to persue UK traffic - as good effort has been made to do a lot of the research for you.

If you know of a "directories directory" please share it with us, otherwise someone should probably create one.

Default Directory of Directories

I've found a few:

http://www.isedb.com
Contains a list of all major, regional and specilality directories.

http://www.directoryarchives.com
A new site containing a list of directories for most categories.

Hope this helps
Cheers

Few more to list n worth looking:

http://www.alephsearch.co.uk
http://www.allwebdirectories.com/

But in my personal opinion I found
http://www.directoryarchives.com much more useful.

Hope this helps.
