Default Can you have too many links?

I'm trying to boost my SE exposure with reciprocal links. Can I have too many? My site is fairly large and the links are only on one page.

Default Too many..

Hello.

I am no online marketing expert, but my colleague who is tells me that Google seems to be ranking links in a different fashion than it used to. It is looking at incoming links as far more important than reciprocal links. This is presumably because if someone is so impressed with your website that they will freely link to you without requesting you do the same, your website must stand out as extremely relevant and good.

I'm not sure that Google has finished deciding this one, as their dances seem to be all over the place at the minute.. anybody else know the answer to this one?

Cheers.

Thanks for the response. This is tough, how do you convince someone you're so interesting they ought to just link to you for nothing? Even if I had the best site in the world I would think asking them for a link would prompt them to ask for one in return. I have some articles on my site that people might want to link from, and I have a note explaining our link policy, but I don't think that will bring much interest.
Thanks again,
