Yo people!
A client of mine wants to be able to pick up potential leads from the traffic that visits his site. So if a guy from company A arrives at his site and has a look around, my client wants to be able to see what company he's from and give him a call. Now, you can see network details, IP addresses etc with GA and other stats packages but non of these are particularly good at displaying that data and making it useful for an non tech-savvy guy like my client. Does anyone know of any software out there which can help my client? Many thanks....

Unless people voluntarily give you their info (a contact form?) you're not going to get it on most people. Some visitors may use an IP that's traceable back to their company, but even in that scenario, can you imagine getting a phone call that starts with "Hey I saw you were just on our website so I thought I'd give you a call!" That would freak me out.

I think in this case perhaps a live support / customer care desk that monitors visitors and allows you to invite visitors into a live online chat may be the best option.

OK, cheers for the advice guys.
My client operates in the heavy industry sector. He's niche and doesn't get a lot of hits so rather than masses of site visitors he gets a small number of visitors and a few of them turn into BIG customers. So his logic was, if they're on his site then they're already interested and may need that extra interaction to re-assure themselves before they spend some big bucks. I can see his point. If it was a jewellery site, or something similar, getting a call would be a bit freaky! All points noted... Ill suggest that he has more contact detail capturing functions on the site.

AND give them a reason to fill out their contact details like..
"Enter your name and email address for a free report on how you can save up to £10,000 per annum simply by doing something or other with your heavy plant!" or "Enter your name and email address for a free no obligation trial of our latest 'heavy machinery money saving device'" I think if you ask for phone numbers you will get less people filling out the form, and if you give them good value, they will get back to you...

I use Google Analytics to generate leads all the time based on just the network name, city and search term. Not every business can do it though. Your prospects have to be medium-to-large companies otherwise you'll get useless network names. The potential revenue from the leads also has to be relatively large or its not worth the trouble. And, you have to be (or have) a good cold-caller who can get through to the decision-makers.

Exactly - get them on your list! Offer something in exchange that they cannot live without - for free. I had no idea what list means to my bottom line, until I started to build one!
Sorry cannot advice anything on Analycits though... No idea what you could do - probably not much.
