Added, but

Isn't linked In better for developing professional networks?

I use FaceBook for family and more unformal networks.

Other relevant:Interesting question: How important are these networks (compared to forums) in 10 years?

Cheers Kgun. Im building up my social media/bookmarking accounts one at a time, in an effort to figure out the potential of each. So far stumble has worked well for me and the clients!

To be honest all im thinking about at this stage i'm thinking about building friends for "thumbs ups" to give my posts a better chance. I will be happy to return the favour! To be fair tho, i reckon we'll bookmark some mutually beneficial pages anyway.

Ill check out linked in soon - been meaning to!

Ive got a facebook as well but keep it to social/private uses only. Dont really advertise it much.

Ill check out the other 2 sites as well.

Im on delicious to. I dont want to put the details on public view so let me know if youre on there and ill PM you.

A link is a link kbleivik's Bookmarks on Delicious . I love myself and have no rivals

The owner of this SEO Buzz Box good site once called me "The link professor"

WPW is my online university until I get fired for my meanings. I am used to that.

You can divide your link collection in
  1. One for SEO / traffic purposes.
  2. One private part that you can use from a Pc all over the world.
One general way to find profiles on social networks is "Googling":

allinurl:nickname

or more specifically

search directly on the social network / media site since some are not indexed.

This Interactive online Google tutorial and references - Google Guide is sometimes a better Google guide than Google itself.

Example:
  1. Advanced Google Search Operators
  2. Google Search Operators - Google Guide
  3. Google Guide Quick Reference: Google Advanced Operators (Cheat Sheet)

Orite jabo, i posted this on the ctabuks forum the other week.

I use stumbleupon and other social bookmarking sites all the time.

Here's an example. A few weeks ago a client of mine added his first blog post. Once he'd uploaded the post I logged on to all the social bookmarking sites that I had time to and submitted the post. I used digg, stumbleupon etc but i also submitted the post to more specific environmental social bookmarking sites, the best one I think is Hugg, who i have no affiliation with by the way! I have friends on these sites who ill message and ask to bookmark the article as well.

Once you've submitted a link a few things happen. It creates inbound links from the sites in question and it sends a huge spike of visitors to the post. I think he got around 300/400 that afternoon and evening. The links (and the fact that his blog is set-up correctly) meant the post was picked up quickly, indexed and recieved a top ten position for the keyword title of the blog post. The traffic drops very quickly but the position, so far, has stuck.

As an SEO what I need is for some of those 300/400 visitors to like the post so much that they link to it, or look at the rest of his site and link to part of that. Then someone finds the link on the linkers site and they like it and link to it also. Viral linking!

I've found that the method above works really well for achieving high positions for long tail keywords but for more generic keywords you need to do more. The success comes from the quality of the article, post, page (or whatever) that you bookmark. If its a REALLY REALLY REALLY good article then it will carry on building links and attracting visitors for a relatively longer period of time.

Feel free to add me on all the various sites. The more "stubmbles" you can get at the beginning, the better!

I've added you Matt. Feel free everyone to add me. My profile is at: donniedark0's profile - StumbleUpon

Does anyone around here join together to Digg each other's Digg submissions? It would obviously be a very powerful thing to do.
