20 easy and or free ways to promote your web site or store.

Here are some free and better ways to promote your web site.


List your site in free directories.



Blog and or post fourms but only when their relevant to what your doing or selling...Don't spam!


use free classified ads ( i would try to stay off craig's list to many scammers)



Write quailty articles about what you do or a product you sell. add your link into the article
near the end of the page so that when reading they dont leave to soon.



use a free listing in superpages.com ( the up grade is not always worth the 199.00 a month)



make phone calls to the sites you want to link to
site owners and store owners get ton's of e-mails
so most get deleted without being read. Plus once you have talked to a real live person it's easier to get them to say yes to a link exchange.



try to only link with relevent sites to yours or what your selling



hand out business cards 250 free at vistaprint.com



if your budget allowes have pens and tee shirts printed. give them away with every purchase or just pass them out to everyone you come in contact with.



hand out fliers at stores or malls



put a sign on the back windsheild of your car and your friends and familys cars too.



create a coupon and e-mail it to every e- address in your address book (every three weeks) Every week is to much though.



Bring up the fact in conversations that you have a on-line business most people will ask what type it is or what you do.



whail sharing your site during conversations ask for their e- address so you can mail them a coupon




your site will have more sales if you can offer
something that most people want for free
(example i have a camera store so i might offer a free pic card with the purchase of 50 dollars or more. or a free roll of film with every purchase. free shipping is always good



I ask local business owners (like nail salons or resturants if you can leave a stack of business cards.)


mail out business cards and or coupons to your doctor, dentist, chiropractor, dry cleaners, hair
stylest, mail man, door man, baby sitter, your child teacher, you get the idea.



Join social networking sites hopefully business ones so you can do some self promotion and not be taged as a spammer.



join banner exchange or banner rotater sites.

one last thing when linking with other sites be careful check them out good first. Linking with a bad site will only bring yours down. Check out to see if they are in a bad neighborhood or even banned. Linking with a bad site could hurt your business.

Most of these things are done off line

offline it's not called spam it called advertising
getting people to your site.


google can't lable you as a spammer when these are done off-line.
google just see's traffic

the more people will get to know you.
who you are and what you do.
They will want to click on your site to see what your all about.

Spam is a tricky thing don't post a url in any forum
unless their is a place to post saying review or look at
these sites.

Always use caution when posting a URL.

also you may blog using a (username) similar to your URL but still remember to only ask and answer questions or tell stories relevent to the subject being discussed. some blog sites have a url box to link to your web site. You may use them.

One of the best ways to get your web site known is to submit to free directories.

regester your domain on craigs list ( i would not actually place a product way to many scammers out their)

For all newbies I would recomend linkreferal.com their fourm is easier for newbies to understand.

This fourm is usually used by sites who have been around awhail and is more geared towards Pro's

This is one of the few posts I read about advertising offline for your online business. I just finished a book on offline advertising ideas and seriously thought not too many people advertised off line

The vista print card is a good idea, but if you upgrade it won't say free card on the back. One time I heard a guy who sells online advertising use it to his advantage by stating on the card

"We're so cheap, even this card is free"

Another offline way is on your car - search "aussie promo plates" to see them

OK I have added some more ideas.
some are repeted from the first post though


1 Write quiality articles about your product or site add a link near the bottom of the page so your pontental customer does not leave the page to soon. submit to news and informational sites.


2 Submit your URL to as many free directories as you can, yet make sure they have a page ranking of 3 or better.



3 use free classified ads to list your products


this does two things, first it puts your products directly in front of the customer. Second it builds a one way link pointing to your site. all for free. (Please when posting to craigslist only put your URL not an actual product scammers are just waiting for newbies. watch out for scammers they often use classified ad's too! Dont do business through an e-mail almost always is a scam.)



4 do link exchanges with site's that are related to yours. ( i have camera stores so i try to link with photographers and photo related blogs.


5 hand out business cards to everyone. 250 FREE at www.vistaprint.com


(leave them at the restruant counter, give to your doctor your chiropractor your dry cleaners
you get the idea.



6 When you receive junk mail with a return envelope send your business card back to them the postage is already paid.



7 leave your business cards on car windsheilds
at the mall or at least every time you park your car leave them on the four surounding cars.



8 get a vinyl sign on the back windsheild of your car and every member of your family's and friends cars too!



9 make up a simple e-mail coupon for a free item with purchase of 25.00 dollars or more
(or 10 15 20 percent off) e- mail them to everyone in your address book once every month
any more than this and you might start losing friends.



10 for every bulk or junk e-mail you receive send the coupon back to them. (reply)



11 add them to your e address book e-mailing back to bulk and junk mail also builds you a e mail list of your own



12 send a coupon to your hosters support team tell them this is a thank you for their great support.. the heavier you lay on the great job their doing the more likely the managers are to forward it to the entire support team.



13 advertise in your local paper. Or some churches have a place to advertise at little or no cost if your a member.



14 on product retail sites try to get at least six images of the product above the fold. ( the fold is before the customer has to scroll down.)



15 offer something free



16 Buy a pre-inked, personalized stamp and put
your ad on it. Stamp the back of all your
envelopes that you mail out. it's suprising just how many people see it before it get to the person you mailed it to.



17 Bumper stickers



18 Flyers



19 Personalized T-shirts give them out to repete customers.



20 Paid ads



21 Purchased leads or free leads



22 Word of mouth(friends and family) have your family and firends e-mail the coupon to all persons in their address books as well. ask nicely and they will.



23 Forwarded emails (Signature Line!) place a signature line at the bottom of your out going e-mails



24 hand out pen's with your site's URL



25 check out who your linking to if they have a really low or lower page rank than you think twice it may bring your site lower in rankings


26 check to see if they are in a bad neighbrohood Bad Neighborhood - Webmaster and SEO Tools
this will tell you if a site is in a bad neighbrohood or banned


27 SiteReportCard: Web Site Optimization and Promotion Tools and keep tweaking until you get 'perfect' on all checks.



28 Check your site at The W3C Markup Validation Service and don't stop tweaking until your site validates. Flash insertion probably exempt(?).


29 Check your site on Web Site Promotion Tools - SEO Training - Software for the first 5 of your keywords.



30 Check your site on http://bobby.watchfire.com/bobby/html/en/index.jsp



31 blog on the highest page ranked blog spots that are related to the product or severice you sell or provide. (don't spam) don't add your URL just pick a user name that is your url or very very close to it) example URL www.SandalbyJill.com user name sandalsjill


( this is not a real URL that i know of )




32 Bring up the subject that you own a web site or store to everyone you meet. Most people are interested in online sales enough to ask you all about your business.



33 then give them the business card and ask for their e-address so you can mail them a coupon.
(this adds to your list to send to every month.



34 place ad in the local paper saying help build my web site. with the URL ask people to log on and leave sugestions on what they would like to see hear or buy on your site. have them leave their ideas on your guest book or contact us page. this is fun and you build a e-mail list so quickly it's unreal.




35 Verifiy each and every purchase with the contact phone number. This will give you a great reputation with your customers. Plus gives you the chance to talk to them over the phone live and in person. ( most people will order again after you have taken the time to talk to them.)

36 So that your customers see your business name everyday send a refridgerator magnet business card with every order.






all these tips will help you with traffic & sales and a lot of them are free. The rest are really affordable.

34 Think guys you ask them if it's OK to add them to your e-mail coupon list when they sign up to leave sugestions on your site. this does work and it is opt in.

Have never had a spam complaint and I have never asked anyone or sugested to anyone to use spam.

I built and am marketing a motocross website for a friend. Not being involved in that realm myself, I've been racking my brain trying to think of other ways to reach the target audience and boost sales. Superpages of course is one perfect solution!

RE: 34 Every single thing you do on the internet does not have to be ALL about ROI some should just get people interested in the product or service. when placing a sign up box for people to leave comments on your site. It should always have a e-mail opt in box.

If you do some promotion off line for your book It is just considered advertising. If you add it to your web site as an ad. This is not spam as it is your site and your ad. no one else is involved To claim spam. As far as google seeing it as spam that depends on what your site is about and if the ad has been stuffed with prime keywords or other spam tactics

You can hire a ghostwriter or you can go to an encloypieda and or dictionary for references plus look up facts about the subject then after your rescearch is done. Piece together a article from all the information you gathered. Plus their is a software availiable called article wizzard (google it) cost about 60 dollars and it will do all the research for you and you copy and paste the information together. and add your own touches then submit them to article submission sites or news media sites
