Marketing strategy for community site

I was wondering what would be a good way to go with a community website if SEO can't get you any results as there is no content people would actually search for so there is no potential traffic from SERPs?

I'm starting a new community based project, something yet unseen, so should i try banner advertisement on other community based websites or some pay per post campaign on some authority blogs or maybe both?

I think creating a hype out of it while it's still in closed beta testing would make some good results, but I wanna hear your thinkings on the subject. Thank you.

Comunity...do you mean as in GEO community? CityOfBlah type of thing?

There is always potential traffic from the SERPs. Believing there is not, is saying that noone is interested in what you have to offer.

Your target market has to come from somewhere. Specifically target the "somewhere".

Echo that. At first, I thought you meant it was for a local community...I was going to say that you should take most of your campaign offline.

It being an online community, I'd say that you definitely should focus n SERPs for starters. But aside from that, forums are obviously a good place to start, since they're community based anyway. You might even look into running banner ads on the forums.

But don't make the mistake of running an unfocused ad. If you're in a basket weaving forum, then market it to basket weavers. Every single place that sees your ad should have content that's unique entirely to them.

Toni I have had the same idea at one time. I had a couple of revenue/traffic generating ideas. If you want to PM me I would be happy to go into more detail or see if your ideas are similar to the ideas I had a few months ago.

Few suggestion;

* Pick a wide niche

* Promote through Social networking & Bookmarking sites

* Optimize your title tag & your H1, H2

* Add anchor text & optimize the landing page effectively

* If it is local community, network with your local chamber of commerce

* Implement few offline marketing strategy.
