Default RSS to E-mail/IM

A client of mine would like me to create a signup form that collects e-mail addresses and/or instant message screen names to automatically notify his site visitors of daily updates. These updates would be fed through an RSS feed.

I tried out feedblitz, but I don't like that it takes you to their website. Also, it has far too many verification steps. Is there a service or PHP program out there that will allow me to send his daily RSS feed to an e-mail and instant message list?

Thanks!

Ideally, this is something the user would do themselves, subscribing to the RSS feed through a feed reader or an e-mail client that already supports RSS subscriptions, such as Outlook 2007 or the Windows Vista feed reader for Windows users.

Are you looking for a solution that will allow you to send an actual RSS file to the person, or something that will be converted into an e-mail?

I would also be interested in some sort of email collection strategies like Richkoi alludes to.

I know Feedburner has a widget that gives you HTML code containing your last 5 RSS feeds posted on your web site. You could post that in an email and send that out. I have added it to my signature of my work emails and it works pretty well. Cavaet...Outlook 2007 is funny about adding HTML code to emails. If you have issues, check out the Feedburner forum.

Hi richkoi

I may be barking up the wrong tree here but I use RSSFWD - RSS Straight into your email inbox. A service by Blue Sky Factory. where the end user adds their email address and gets updates via email.

It doesn't disclose the email addresses but it can tell you how many are using the service.

I hope this helps.
