Can anyone explain to me more in detail what is viral marketing?

Viral marketing is really where your visitors promote your site. You simple offer them the tools to promote your site. Examples:

1. "Tell a Friend" links at the bottom of your pages (you need good content of course)
2. Perhaps a video that your visitors can forward to their friends
3. Some people (like me) use free PowerPoint presentations
4. Perhaps you can create some ring tones for cell phones that people can download

Viral marketing works well IF you offer value to the visitor. My thought is rather than spend advertising dollars on getting traffic I would rather create good content and then let the visitors tell their friends about the site.

So Viral marketing is like a good "virus" that spreads from visitor to visitor.
