Well, I would definitely vote for the blog ... that does seem to be the current way to get links, make friends and influence search engines...
Matt Cutts recently gave a talk on
SEO for blogs; here's a
transcript of the talk. And Lorelle has a great book on blogging tips and her
blog is a great resource as well.

I am happy to advertise my competitors as I don't really believe in the concept. There is enough business to go around and then some. And while I know that doesn't hold true in all markets, there is still something valid about it. When someone comes to my website they may not find the right fit, and I would much prefer that they leave my site to go to a "competitor" than back to Google. For one thing, Google sees that and knows (algorithmically) that my site is a resource.
Abundance is a point of view and one that attracts what you want.
