I developed a new product that text enables a website so the website owner can receive not only an email when their contact form is filled out but a text message as well. The website is Textcall
I am having a difficult time deciding how to market this service to web design firms. I obviously can scan through the web design directories and send an email out here or there, however, I need to "mass market" this service. Anyone have any ideas on where and how I can market to web designers? Thanks, Jason Pender |

Hi Jason,
Why not advertise on forums or other websites that webdesigners often use? I'd recommend against sending an unsolicited email. I'm a webdesigner & every day get spam emails from folks with some application or other they're trying to sell me - and those messages go into the "deleted" file without hesitation. Just my 2 cents. cheers ~ Denise |

Yeah...
Why don't you put a post on a forum that cater's to web designers and web markerters...and then pretend to ask a question about it. Then all the web designers and and web marketers who see the post and click on the link that you provided and you'll get tons of free references on the pretense of looking for advice.....yeah that's what you can do. Brilliant

If webproworld.com had a classified area, you could post it there. Most forums do

I think, you should write an small article about it and publish it at different popular article directories and also a press release about your product also use your product link as your signature at different forums....

Have to agree. And just because someone sends a text message, that in no way means they are necessarily a well-qualified prospect.
Now a service that has intelligent filtering which only routes messages that are a legitimate priority -- like from your best current customers -- would be an asset. Due to the urgency and distraction of text messaging, it's probably a good idea to sort out the real benefit to the customer. And to do so before you start contacting people. From the marketing perspective there is far too much emphasis placed on raw leads, without regard to the proper qualification that turns leads into prospects. Basic marketing 101 is about concentrating on best customers, not raw leads without any prequalification. I can't see anything which would kill a presentation to an existing client or qualified prospect faster than getting interruptions from sorta-maybe leads. You have to explain how this product eliminates time-wasting distractions - without creating more. Last edited by Dcrux; 06-30-2007 at 12:07 PM. |

Please don't call me ot text message me ... I get so many solicitations from Indian outsourcery and software and affiliate programs ...
And I definitely don't want a text message when I get an inquiry, but I do imagine that many e-commerce people so that they can respond promptly. I think emptymirror's suggestion is spot on ... advertise on webmaster forums ... Cheeers, MJ

Not a bad idea overall, a lot of companies use SMS (which I imagine is the back end protocol you are using) for this exact purpose. They post a contact form on the intranet for tech problems, and when someone fills out the form it e-mails and text messages the IT person on call. Can be very useful if implemented correctly.
I would suggest looking into advertising on technical or web related forums. Technet, dice.com, sourceforge.net, etc. Industry magazines geared toward either Internet Marketing or Internet business, and their associated web sites and forums could be another good venue.
