If I can create a couple of unique content articles for my website, submit the articles to popular article directories, how well could that stradegy work to drive traffic to my website? What types of articles would work best, buying guides, how to's, product reviews etc.?

What would work best is contingent on knowing your customers. One thing you can try is controversy. For instance, explaining the megapixel myth in cameras. You can then go on to show how your site has done the hard work, tested the equipment you sell, and provided a very easy to use replacement indicator for megapixels. So the tactic is articles. The strategy is having something worth writing about. |

All of the styles you are thinking about would be great. Just make sure you understand that the articles are extending your marketing funnel. Always try to leave them wanting more. Give aways are great for this tactic. Also make sure you use your site keywords in the anchor text of the resource box for SE results too. Try to create and post only unique articles to avoid SE penalties and omitted results.

The articles should be rich and unique in content. Moreover the articles should be useful to the users/ not for the search engines. Then definitely it can drive a good amount of traffic.
