Default Help with CPM Rates

I am new to this site and was hoping to get some help with online advertising.....

Is there a standard CPM rate for online banner views (impressions)?

Using the leaderboard banner on this forum page as an example of the type and size of banner, what would a standard CPM rate be?

What about for pre screened or targeted market?

I know these questions may be vague but I am finding rates all over the place when looking at different website media kits.

As an example....If I have a fishing website with 100,000 unique visitors each month, what should I charge advertisers for a leaderboard banner that appears on all pages. I was thinking a CPM of $50 since the visitors are presumably all into fishing.

Am I correct here? Too high, too low?

Any help/feedback appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Ian,

CPM depends ona variety of factors. Not only the number of visitors the site has, but also their quality (ie. is it valuable traffic? Do these users respond well to advertising?).

Then it becomes a matter of supply and demand. Start off low to attract advertisers, once you've proved the value of your visitors, raise your CPM rates accordingly.

I'd say $50 is a bit on the expensive side...

And last, if you need help in selling your ad space, I'd recommend going through a network, who for a % of the revenue generated will take care of all of these issues...
