I’ve written an article what do you think? and what now?

I read writing articles is a good way to promote ones website so I’ve had a go. This is my first ever article.

I’m sure I saw a list of article submission websites but I cant find it now it might not even on this website.

Here it is…
Quote:
Has Google outgrown Page Rank?

The page Rank method is over 20 years old it was developed at Stanford University by Larry Page and Sergey Brin as part
of a research project about a new kind of search engine. The project started in 1995 and led to a functional prototype, named Google.
From wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank

A lot has changed in those 20 years especially the world wide web and how it is used.

Google describes PageRank
PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important."

In summary
Page rank uses links as votes and some votes carry more weight than others.

the problem:
Google combines Page Rank with sophisticated text-matching techniques how sophisticated I don’t know but I’ve seen no evidence of pseudonyms been used which I personally would expect a sophisticated text matching technique to have.

Never the less I am in no doubt that the page rank system works and the phenomenal growth of Google is an indication of how well it works.

Fundamentally at the heart of the page rank technique it assumes the most popular is the best return for any given search argument which is simply not true.

The page rank technique doesn’t ballot people for votes it ballots pages created by webmasters who are increasingly aware of how to get the most from the page rank system. One could argue page rank ballots webmasters.

In my opinion the biggest problem facing the page rank system is by its very nature the biggest oldest and strongest will dominate and make it increasingly difficult for newer and smaller websites to gain any relevance.

For many the internet represents a beacon of democracy where freedom of speech is respected and where David has at least a chance against Goliath.

I think the page rank system by its very nature is beginning to undermine this philosophy.

Sites such as Digg.com ballot people rather than pages or page creators and have achieved great success in doing so, from humble technological beginnings Digg.com has grown not only in popularity but as a valuable repository of searchable information.

So I ask the question again:
Has Google outgrown Page Rank?

Default If it started in 1995 its not 20 years old

I have no writing skills, only an old calculator.

But anyway, I think many people, including myself, don't like where page rank is taking us. There are junk directories springing up all over the place because of it and real content is being buried lower down the pecking order.

You could just post your article to a blog. Or you could do what you have done - post it in this forum. I think your article is worth reading (and replying to).

I think most gurus by now see little value in Page Rank. Its original foundation still has merit, but the increasing complexity of the web -- not to mention the unfortunate history of link manipulation (which I suspect wasn't foreseen) -- has diluted its usefulness quite considerably. In turn, it's become a relatively insignificant factor in determining where (or sometimes if) a site will end up in the SERPs.
Nevertheless, any webmaster who wants a quick reference to his degree of success isn't going to complain if he sees his PR figure go up a notch (or two), however long it takes to happen. And it is an equally quick measure of the comparative merit of sites in competition with one another.

Thanks irodgers for your frank assessment I'd sort of come to the same conclusion about my writing skills and consequently haven’t posted it anywhere.

Instead I’ve read more and tried harder and penned a news release instead about my site.
Apparently announcing your website on some news “wire” sites can lead to some exposure, if they’re well written and interesting.

Have I improved? Or am I just wasting my time

Kane Research creates a level playing field for large and small websites to compete.

UK based company Kane Research Limited have launched a new web service aimed at providing a list of the very best websites regardless of size, network connections or advertising budget.

Members are encouraged to submit and vote for their favourite websites using a simple “one click” voting system. Newly submitted websites appear as new releases until they receive enough votes to enter the web site charts proper.

Regular visitors can keep abreast of changes using the various sort options including last voted, latest entry and a live interactive view. Website owners are able to solicit votes by linking directly to their chart entry, not only does this provide a mechanism to raise their web site within the charts but a single vote will project an entry to the top of the last voted and the live view.
Another popular way visitors can keep their finger on the pulse is using the “tag cloud” view where frequently used tags are emphasised in a larger font.

With the introduction of this free service Kane Research hope to provide a platform for web entrepreneurs lacking the budget to compete with larger more established websites. The ability to receive this early exposure will provide a much needed breathing space for new websites to get established.

Votedtop.com has launched with 20 selectable categories: All, Auto, Blogs, Business, Career, Family, Finance, Fun, Games, Health, Home, Kids, Media, Reference, Regional, Shopping, Sports, Technology, Travel, and Web.

Sometimes if you find yourself in the position of needing to write something, and you are wise enough to understand it is not realy what others want to read and is more accuratly described as 'what I want to say" This is a good time to 'Go over the top' a little bit.

an argumentative title. . can create argument.
A play on words . . can create a smile.
an insult . . can create outrage.

creating an argument, a smile, or outrage, are all slightly better than creating indifference.

A reader can often detect a promotional article at a distance of 50 yards. 'The art of camoflage is true and tested method In a modern war Zone'

I've written dozens of press releases and when I go back and read some of the ones from a few years ago I just shake my head.

Why not reverse it? because your site gets mentioned in the PR summary (which I edited a little, in bold)

Small and Large Web Site can now compete in a level playing field

One thing about press releases, Google crawls them quickly and only displays a few lines so keywords upfront if possible.
