Default sales question.... and addressing customers

ok... we all know the proper mr. and mrs. tags.... BUT what is appropriate when contacting customers for the 1st time? SHould you say mr. xxxx or mrs. xxxx .... OR is it proper to call them by their 1st name?

Which way is more appealing, and proper. NOW... I know under professional settings and knowing contacts of your parents.. you should normally use mr. and mrs. But when (if ever) should that stop?

What are your opinions.... and I hope this is the right forum for the topic.

thanks,

Default

When you are contacting them for the first time, use Mr. or Mrs.

When they contacted you, use a first name if they used a first name or a Mr. or Mrs. if they do.

If they say, Dear Sir or Madame, use Mr. or Mrs.

An alternative is to use the full name. Dear Joe Smith instead of Dear Mr. Smith.
