Default Please Help

I'm new to putting information up on the web, having done it with the FrontPage manual in one hand and the keyboard in another. Now it's time to make the site www.living-kosher.com "normal." Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

You could think about using some blogging software like wordpress or for something a little more advance xoops. These making updating your site very easy and there are lots of freely available templates to get the look you want. Wordpress and Xoops quite often come free with your hosting.

Personally, I think you did a very good job on your site for having the manual in one hand and keyboard in the other.

What are your goals for the site?

- To sell banner ads or make money from something else?
- Just to share information?

There are sites in my market area that look much worse than mine, that do very well :-) As a first step I would define your goal perhaps.

Thanks, Ireland, but I don't have a blog in mind on this site. On www.sweeneyfish.com, which is my own-own site (and subsequently one I rarely get to touch) I intend to blog, though, so thanks for that info. I do have a good following in the fish world from my time as editor of fish magazine, so blog would be great there.

Thanks for the compliment, Nashville...you should have seen me the day all the images disappeared! The goals for this site are my associate's goals...to sell ads to mainstream companies that produce kosher foods so that kosher food consumers will know about the foods.

The affiliate ads there now are moreorless placeholders, to show how "real" ads will look in place and to keep it from being only editorial content.

How I'm going to place the ads into the pages is another issue. I've yet to figure out how that will happen. ROFL!!!

Any suggestions as to how I word my request for the ads themselves? If we were talking print, I'd rattle it off double waltz time, but in this media, I'm not so sure what I'm looking for. If I'm asking for a banner ad from a company, can I assume that their webmaster will know what to send me?

Xoops is cotent management system and not blogging software so I'm sure you would find it easy to improve your site with something like this. Also you can create 'blocks' with xoops that can contain any information, including ads [text or graphic] that can be moved around and placed anywhere on the page with just a click!

Sorry, Stephanie, I thought they were both for blogging. Would it work with my shared borders? I would love that!

I'm very fond of the shared borders because I had a hard time making up my mind on style, and as the style evolves, it's nice to know it's happening across the site (though I don't know how I will handle it when I don't want to use a shared border.)

I was reading about dynamic web template, but it wasn't as easy for me as the shared borders, so I reverted to the sb.

This is all great fun and I'm having a blast with it though it takes a lot of time and concentration. It's such a whoop when something goes right, though.

What county?

Thanks for your help,
Mary Ellen
