Here are few my suggestions:

1. Start submitting to search engines and directories (when you've done this basic step, you would be surprised that the effect is sooner than you expected)

2. Start joining forums (related to your business) where you could freely discuss about your stuff. However, do not promote directly, be able to give forum members something that they need. Speak of benefits.

3. Try to exchange links with complement sites.

4. Try reading more web marketing stuff and freely ask experts in forums for you to get plenty of ideas and avoid marketing pitfalls.

I think you should get relevant and popular backlinks to your site. Also you can put press releases on free press release sites.

It all depends on your budget. I would define that first.

Take into account that it will also take you awhile before achieving decent search engine listings. Therefore, you may want to sign up for Google adwords and Yahoo's advertising program at the beginning. For one of my website (www.inuitartpod.com), it's really the only way I'm getting any sales at present. I have no doubt that eventually I'll have more natural search engine traffic; however, paying for clicks is my only option right now.

Try submitting articles to article directories. And make sure you place your link at the bottom of each article. It's quite a lot of work, but you’ll start receiving some traffic in a few weeks (for free).

Hope it helps

Hi All,

Firstly thank you for all your replies, I really appreciate your comments.

There is a couple of things I would like to highlight regarding this.

1.) The budget is very large we are talking $10-$15k per month in the US alone then there is UK and Europe and the rest of the world. So considering all the controversary around the google ad words will this actually be worhtwile doing, I was thinking Yahoo Home page, Ask.com and MSN home page and maybe a little bit of CNN international.

2.) What are the top affiliates in the US? I will need the top converting affiliates for the site.

Any help regarding this would be greatly apprectiated

Thanks Again

Contract a freelance writer (with SEO experience) for a small part of that budget to write articles on your behalf for submission. That takes the weight off your shoulders. Then spend about $2000 on an optimised PPC campaign to test the waters (make sure you optimise your campaign properly) and insert the conversion tracking code on your site. Add analytics software that could tell you which keywords/adwords are converting and write articles on these topics for submission.

Depending on what type of site you're launching, if it's I.T. B2B you might consider content aggregators like KnowledgeStorm. They place your content (podcasts, white papers, product reviews) into a directory that extends over 200+ major IT and Business websites as well as the most popular search engines......... it's a good way to hit a very wide swath.
