What is the number one thing it takes to make a Business wor
What is the number one thing it takes to make a Business work?
Most people would jump up and say money, but I disagree.
I started my business with no money, but what I did have, no amount of money can buy. I had Passion, a passion to make my business a dream.
How can you make your customer or friend excited about your business if your not. So when people ask me what is the best way to make a business work my answer is with passion.
What do you think is the best way to make a business work?

You are right!
Janeth,
Passion is everything. You know anytime when you wake up and excited to go to your work and are happy then you make it work.
How many of us are doing things we do not enjoy at all? So many in my view...
When I started the Free Spirit Centre it was with a passion to make a site with a difference and with quality content. To bring new awareness and empowering themselves to find their dreams and passion. We do not ask for money in order to provide the information. Then that passion to this site grew everytime we receives so many e-mail from people needed help and my day job as International Business Development started to make no sense in my life. I quit my career to concentrate for the site and my own writing, public speaking, given courses on different subject. The money is much less now as it used to be but I am happier doing what I enjoy doing.
From that passion I found my own essence of who I am and what I enjoy doing without doing things just to please everyone else around me.
You know it is like when you were in many different jobs previously working but you always feel what else? There must be something else for me. Then you follow your passion and you feel you are at home enjoying what you are doing.
Joseph

What The Number 1 Thing To Make A Business Work
Janeth, please dont surprise like that !
But an gonna answer the question :
Innovation : integrated with -
a) A.C.C.U.R.A.T.E business information for planning, control and decision making.
b) working capital structure sufficient
c) last but not least "common sense" - need I say more ?
One should be able to decide whether the sum of the parts is greater than the whole.

Great question... and I agree that passion is a critical element. I'd also add persistence though.
Without persistence, passion won't get you too far... but of course without passion, it's difficult to be persistent :)

Consitant follow through
An Idea, thought, business plan is nothing without Follow Through. Some plans take a little longer than others, I agree with all of the above and add mine at the end.

Good question Janeth, and I would have to agree with most the posts in this thread. But I would say that these posts relate to what makes the business work for YOU. All the things stated here are what make the business appear professional, credible, and maybe even inovative or appeailing to others, but what about the answer that makes the business successful for your potential CUSTOMERS?
So I guess I'll try and toss my two cents into this :o) What about TRUST? I'll admit, all the other posts are good answers, but lets face it, without TRUST of your potential customers and visitors, none of the others mentioned matters. You can have the flashiest products and websites in the world. You can promote the best products out there. But without your visitors and potential customers TRUST, you have ZERO sales.
OK, so how do we build that trust? The simplest answer is by DELIVERING exactly what we say we can deliver, and doing it on a CONSISTENT basis. It's all about PERCEPTION. :o)
I'll leave it at that. If anyone wants to read more about such bold claims :o) they can visit our free webmaster resource section and check out our articles in the marketing section :o) The links is located in our sig file.

I've got to agree with trogar. Figuring out what you want to do, why, and then doing it is what it takes to get started. You need Passion for that.
In order to make it work...customers and more customers! You won't have may customers unless you meet or exceed their expectations. I think a little empathy for the customers way of thinking is in order for anyone who wants to succeed.

Passion will get you going but surprisely most business failures are built on pure passion and die in less than 3 years. The greatest problem with passion - is that emotions are directly associated and emotions tend to make a person indecisive.
The top 1% of all business people make decisions extremely quickly and slow to change their resolve... they would have tenacity.

Passion is indeed important. But I still believe that relationships are the key to any business success.
Relationships with your customers/clients promotes trust, word of mouth advertising, and even friendships.
Relationships with your vendors promotes trust, word of mouth advertising, and even friendships.
Nothing is more important than people. They help your business, they hurt your business, without them you would have no business.
You treat all people in your sphere of influence with respect and make their needs more important than yours and you will be successful.
Of course that begs the question, what is success?
My two cents.

Belief in yourself that you can do whatever it is you desire to do.
Some people are their own worst enemies. If they lack the confidence in themselves, it's all that much harder for them to accomplish their goals.
