Hi there,
I am out searching for the best tool that can help us find good/targeted keywords for our website. Came across Word Tracker www.wordtracker.com and found that it might be what we are looking for. They are charging about $50 for a month of service, just need you guys to give me some inputs. Is it worth it? We pretty much know what kind of keywords we are going to use, just need to figure out the order of improtance. Please give me your advice on this. If you know of any other services/program/software which could do the trick better please let me know. Thank you for all your support!

Definitely!
You do not have to pay for a month. There is the option to pay less by paying for a week. This will provide you ample time to conduct at least three thorough searches. I should advise you read the links from Wordtracker to articles written about search engine optimisation to demonstrate the benefits of using Wordtracker to discover the relevant keywords. It really is a science but one that is simple to understand. For example, the keywords presented are guaranteed to help you identify which words are commonly searched for, but have least competition from web sites using them. This should maximise your keyword effectiveness. While we appreciate that nothing in the Internet world is guaranteed we have used Wordtracker to elevate our three sites to the top of Google's .co.uk and .com rankings for certain words. For example search on "lingerie onlinestore" to locate www.female-fantasy.com and www.lingerie-onlinestore.co.uk This excludes using other tools such as linking. Hope this helps. Richard |

Wordtracker is well worth the money, but you don't have to pay $50 per month. If you are only going to optimize one or two sites just get it for a day. If you need more, get another day.
It will help you determine which of your keywords are most valuable so you will know exactly which ones to optimize. It will also suggest alternate keywords that you may not have considered.

Admittedly each year I pay my yearly fee for wordtracker - so I can't say it is useless.
However you must realize that the data you receive from this tool is not 100% accurate and in many instances can be 100% wrong (but for different reasons). A good example of why it's wrong --if you check for search engine optimization you will note that say 1,000 search a day appear at google (not factual - just an example) and you use this data to rank your site only to find out that you get #1, and #2 positions, have an Adword there as well and 990 per day seem to bypass your ranked listing. Unfortunately because auto-checkers and manual searches for a SEO's own website listed are included in these numbers plus a fair margin of error is also involved (not a direct feed from quoted search engines) you can end up working in the wrong direction. Wordtracker is good for ball-parking - it's a tool - not a magic wand.

I hate to say this, but I've been using worktracker on the cheap for about a year. I think the rates that they charge are pretty high for the guy doing his own website. Designers and professional SEO people are another story.
I've always used the free demo tool a few times to get what I wanted. Only AltaVista is listed and they say that it is equal to 7% or so of all the search traffic. I just took the number of times looked at per month for a particular keyword and divided it by .07 and you get a good idea of how many times that word is being asked for in a month over all the engines. Worked for me. I haven't used it in months, don't really need to. Once you've got your keywords down, no need to go back. Don't forget to look at your competitors (highly ranked) sites and find out what key words they are using. They are usually in their metatags.
