Default Great site but tips needed to make it profitable?

I have basically had to start all over since my last site was hacked so badly we couldnt repair it. All the info was staored in mysql.

I had a good reputation and many members so we started another site with a new domain name (our other was soon to expire) and we like the new name better.

Our cliental is growing but we are nowhere near the size as before. We've only had the site open for 2 weeks.

Anyway here is where I need some help.

My site is an all around community based site for poultry breeders etc. Its mostly a user friendly site like the one here at web pro world but we lack any real way to turn this site into any form of profit.

I have tried banner affililiates etc. That's no good they don't pay you until you have reached an almost unreachable figure.

Anyway I don't know all the different things that I might could be doing to make some of my money back etc.
Any help on how to make a poultry site profitable would be great.

Thanks

Google AdSense or text-based ads would be about the only way I could see to do it.

Also, what about a newsletter? You'd have additional revenue ops there.

Other than that, I can't see a lot.

Hi Adam and thanks for the reply.

We do have a newsletter that we send out weekly. Its mostly HTML but we do the text based newsletters also for those that cant read the html with there mail program.

Thats another thing that jsut cost me more money. We have 1300 subscribers and my hosting provider just put restrictions on newsletters and said we cant email that many in a day.. I could send them over several days but that is alot of trouble..
Anyway I went ahead and hired an email hosting company for our opt in list and bulk campaigns.

I dont really have any products to sell. What are the other opps you are talking about with using my newsletters?

I know about google adsense but does it pay in the long run?

Thanks for your help.

Haven't tried it personally, although I intend to in the very near future (something wicked this WPW way comes.)

As far as putting restrictions on your mailing list, you shouldn't have to hire an outsourced email hoster to do that. Most hosts have an in-house listserv that you can use, and AFAIK they don't restrict (although I don't do a lot of mailouts either, so I don't know.)
