Conversion Ratio of Opt-In List

Hey All-

I have been playing around with the opt-in pages for two of my email marketing list. Right now, I am getting around a 40% & 20% opt-in rates for two different lists. I wanted to know what is the 'average' opt-in rate for an email list? Don't know if I really should bust my hump to increase or leave it as is...
