Have I also mentioned that we've published our European Digital Home Forecast? No, I haven't. Well, here you go: in late September we published our first
European Digital Home Forecast. It offers base year data plus five-year forecasts for household penetration of PCs, multiple-PCs, home networks, MP3 players, games consoles, DVRs, DVD players, and surround sound home cinemas. As with all our forecasts, this data is cut by each of the 17 European countries we cover.

Clients have access to the full details, but for non-clients, here are some highlights:

- Household penetration of home networking equipement, which currently stands at 5 percent across Europe, will more than quintuple by 2010. Sweden and France will lead the way in networking adoption.

- MP3 players will reach critical mass in Europe in early 2006. They're most popular in the Nordic markets, largely because Nordic consumers steal more digital music than anyone else.

- Just under 1/3 of European households own a games console, trailing the US, where slightly less than half of households own a console. But we're forecasting a growth spurt over the next few years thanks to next-gen consoles, and Europe will make up some ground on the US in that time.

- Less than 1 percent of European households own a DVR today, with the majority of that adoption in the UK. As more TV operators introduce DVR functionality to their STBs over the next few years, adoption will grow by around 70 percent compounded annually.
