Default Advertising on Yahoo Free - That's Hot

Some WPW members and readers may recall that at the beginning of the month, I had massive referrals showing up in my stats from Yahoo! Music. However, they were hits pulling a photo from my site, not visitors they were sending me. Upon a quick inspection, I was able to ascertain that Yahoo! was hotlinking an a rather large, high quality image from one of my sites. You can catch up on that issue by reading Yahoo is Stealing Bandwidth.

Attempts to contact Yahoo! were fruitless to put it midly. Only after I changed the photo to show one of my domain names and shared the story at WPW did they bother to change the photo and stop stealing my bandwidth - on that page and photo at least.

On another Yahoo! page, it is obvious that Yahoo! is still up to their same tactics, and no easier to contact to correct stop them from stealing my bandwidth without so much as an acknowlegement or a thank you.

So to bring a long story to a quick close, I've simply decided to make the most of the bad situation. I'm selling advertising space on Yahoo! Hurry this offer may not last.

Can be view at Yahoo! Music:

If you can't beat 'em .... now, that's hot!

Maybe you should consult an attorney and put something in your site's terms of use that allows hot linking but states that by doing so, a party is respnsible for bandwidth costs at a stated rate. Something outragous like $10 per mb. Then carefully document everything and present Yahoo with a bill.

Wow nullvariable - quite the buzz you've got over there at diggs - nice!

Yes, the image is now gone ... now that the tens of thousands of Internet users from around the world wide web have seen and witnessed the bandwidth theft, how do I subpoena them as material witnesses in a lawsuit against Yahoo :-) lol

The bandwidth was being "borrowed" for a month. It seems that you have to embarass Yahoo to get them to do the right thing - who knew these psychological parenting techniques would come in handy with a billion-dollar industry too?

Just an idea, but find us a contact point in Yahoo and we will all complain on your behalf. I'll even point them to this post, well you never know!

No, that's a great idea David.

IF only, a real contact point could be found at Yahoo that is not some idiotic AI generated response that makes little or no sense, I'd be happy to provide such place for others to complain.

I have an 800# to Overture - I may call them only to see if they'll give up a real contact point and person.

For your humor in the interim, please look at some of the responses contacting Yahoo provided earlier in the month at Yahoo is Stealing Bandwidth

Only after I changed that photo and it was a front page feature here at WPW and it made Google News did they change the photo and stop the hotlinking off of that page ...

Their shareholders can rest assured that they are doing everything possible to cut costs and raise profit margins - they're getting their bandwidths from others!
