Default Web And Satellite Radio Delivers Professional Young Men

Who’s listening to web and satellite radio? According to BIGresearch, the vast majority of Web radio fans are young professional men with active spending habits.

The survey, released from the Center for Media Research, reports that the typical web radio listeners are between the ages of 18 and 44, or 74.5% of the web radio audience. Nearly 60% of them are male with an average income of $54, 334.

The survey also states that over 30% of adults over 18, or approximately 68 million, regularly or occasionally listen to web radio. The most preferred formats are rock, alternative, oldies, top 40/pop and talk.

While these numbers are useful for targeting specific (and likely to spend) types of consumers, web radio is still just a notch below satellite radio for delivering the goods.

Though satellite radio listeners belong to a smaller grouping that represents approximately 9.5 million listeners, these listeners exhibit even more active consumption and have a higher average household—and two thirds of them are regular web surfers.

The group that chooses satellite radio as their medium of choice have an average household income of $77, 329, 56% of them are male.

Their habits are reflective of the typical suburbanite, nearly 70% are dog owners all with a higher rate of acid reflux, allergies, arthritis, depression, headaches and migraines, heart burn and indigestion, heart disease, insomnia, and obesity.

Listed as their top leisure activities are watching television, listening to music, surfing the net, dining out, and reading books.
