Default Generating Traffic

Here are some of my favorite traffic-generating techniques.

Content is King

On the internet, people are searching for one thing....... Content! Load your website with as much content as possible. Then, continuously add content. Search engines love information and they will love your site if you've got lots of it. There's plenty of free content for the taking on the internet. You can load up your site with articles from article directories like ezinearticles.com. Or, you could be like John and use content from the public domain. Or, you can use content that is in the creative commons. This type is now easier than ever to find now that Yahoo and others have come out with a search engine designed specifically for content that is in the creative commons.

Add links to your site on Wikipedia- Simply go to wikipedia.com and search for terms related to your web site. Once you find a couple of pages, scroll down to the bottom of the page and find the subheading "External Links". Then, click on the "edit" button and add a link to your site. This incoming link is definitely worth its weight in gold. However, make sure that you are only adding quality links that point to valuable information.

Find high traffic forums that are related to your web site. Search google using "your keyword forums" Ex. Fitness forums, health forums, internet marketing forums. Posting in forums helps your PR, inbound links, web traffic, and credibility. Not to mention, you can learn a lot about your target market by visiting and participating in forums.

Submit testimonials for products you have used online.

Submit a Google Sitemap

Submit to free directories

Post book reviews at Amazon.com

Apply for web awards - Winning web awards will bring you some traffic and increase your link popularity.

Submit article to article directories

Use Ebay.com for qualified leads.

Submit sites to craiglist.org and other popular Classified web sites

Place your links in the link sections of My Yahoo groups

Publish articles for ezines.

Shoot out a press release

Create a free ebook or software and submit your free resource to free sites across the net.

Start a blog

Post book reviews at Amazon.com

Throw a Contest

Expired Domain traffic

Hi mate,

The first thing you need to do is clean up your code and take the CSS and JavaScript out and place it in .css and .js files.

The layout looks nice. I like the colors, but I think you could do with some padding.

You should also make the pages in .php and not .html - because if you use PHP you can plug lots of other stuff in later, and use includes.

I would like to offer you my personal assistance. I can see heaps of potential for this site, and I can see that you have put in heaps of effort.

If you don't mind, I'd like to write a valid XHTML template, which uses includes. That way you'll also be able to ad various RSS feeds and get HEAPS of content for free.

There's no catch involved. I'd truly like to help you. I'll speak with you over MSN or Yahoo or something, to show you how to add pages (and RSS feeds) to the new layout.

The reason am offering is because as things stand right now, I can see grief for you in the future, while trying to add and update pages.

Default Try not to sue Google/Overture PPC. Maybe a Fraud.

Hello,

I would recommend to check out http://oursuccessonline.com

They have a program there that delivers Your ad pretty much around the world. BUT! For a small fee. It is different than Google Adwords or former Overture and more effective. It is explained that Google /Yahoo Pay-Per-Click service can be a fraud.

The last thing you want to do is start paying people for traffic. Trust me. When I first started out, I spent THOUSANDS of dollars - and made JACK.

What you need to do is get your site growing "naturally" from search engines, link referrals and word of mouth.

If you can get your site growing under those conditions, THEN and ONLY then should you consider paying money for advertising. And even then it probably wouldn't be worth it if you don't have your own product and a high markup.

This advice is 110% correct, true, useful, and is from personal experience.

I know of lots of people that use AdWords to make lots of money... myself included. You just need to write effective ad copy, have a decent landing page, and be able to track what is working and what isn't. It's not rocket science, it's called "Test, analyze, and adjust" in the words of Mike Sack of Inceptor.

I don't totally agree on the PHP deal either. If you can get a site built as static pages, you can use mod_rewrite or ISAPI Rewrite if you decide you need to add dynamic components. Our sites all say page-name.html but they are dynamic.

Alli gave some good advice. He's showing using a diverse number of methods, which helps to future-proof your marketing campaign.

One thing I can tell you for sure is that you're going to need more links. Check here for a growing list of directories that you can post to for starters.

When you're not selling stuff, it's tough to get a decent return on any paid advertising. You'd need to be very selective about the terms you use in order to make money off of AdSense by paying AdWords. I have one friend that is able to do it, but most people fail miserably at it.

You're most likely going to need to get a large link building campaign going for a site like yours. It seems to be pretty diverse, so each topic will really need another link building campaign centered around it. You've got articles, software, templates, scripts, hosting, wallpaper, contests and a lot more. What you've got here is an identity crisis. What is your goal with the site? You can't be everything. Start out with one topic to work on (with a link building campaign), then work on the next one, then repeat.

You're actually targeting some competitive ground here. I know because I have a friend that has the same type of content as you - he just splits his over a few dozen dommains so each site is very focused and he can have keywords in the domain names. That's much easier to get to work, but yours is doable. He has 62,000 pages on his screensavers site alone and is showing 70,000 links in Yahoo right now so you have something to compare yourself to.

In any case, you're going to be building content for a long time, getting links for quite a while, and probably going to be spending a lot of time banging your head on the wall trying to make a decent amount of money from AdSense on a site like this. My friend has done it (with a lot of advice along the way from multiple SEO pros - myself included), so it can be done. But it takes time and a whole lot of hard work to get there.

Brian.
