HomeChoice, the UK triple-play provider, is
dropping prices through the floor next month. They've already been incredibly aggressive in their discounting: 1Mb broadband, 22 IPTV channels, and VoIP with free night and weekend calling, can all be had for a promotional price of £14 per month. Currently, that package reverts to the normal price (£28 per month) after three months.

Starting in September, the permanent pricing for this package will drop to £18 per month. That's very good value -- even if you agree the multichannel TV piece isn't any more complete than Freeview, it's still a good price for double-play, plus it gives you access to VoD. The new pricing should help HomeChoice (which at last check had a scant 15,000 customers) find a few new subscribers.

But I still can't imagine HomeChoice ever matching the success of the French (or even Italian or Spanish) triple-play providers. The UK simply isn't a good market for IPTV -- would you want to compete against Sky and Freeview? -- and HomeChoice simply doesn't have enough momentum or geographic coverage to make waves. The UK ISP market isn't exactly an open field either. Plus their discounting has already been so aggressive, I'm not sure how much further they can take the value angle -- at some point they'll have to sell on benefits, not just price.

On the other hand, if you live in west London and you're looking for a great deal on triple play, give them a call.
