I have to mention the recent Parks Associates
IPTV report. It bizarrely claims the UK will be a prime market for IPTV because -- get this -- UK consumers are interested in "advanced TV services." It's not exactly shocking that the best-developed TV market in Europe might have an interest in TV services. But it's this very level of development that gives IPTV a relatively low chance of succeeding in the UK: the competition for subscribers is brutal. Plus, the data they use to prove their argument is wrong: IPTV isn't about "advanced services," it's simply an alternate delivery platform, and a chance to bundle. They use the wrong data and the wrong logic, and come to the wrong conclusion.

Our upcoming IPTV report, currently in final editing, contains an IPTV Opportunity Index that reveals which European countries offer the best chances for IPTV services to flourish. We scored each country on a number of factors -- including potential audience size, consumer interest in the benefits of IPTV, and network infrastructure quality. Which countries came out on top? Check back for the report next week.
