Default Press Release Case Study - With 1st Month Stats

Anyone following this WPW Forum knows that I am a strong proponent of utilizing the many digital avenues available, such as Press Release Writing, submission and syndication.

In this posting I will demonstrate affectivity of a Press Release on what most would consider a mundane topic for a Manufacturing Client, with accompanying statistics.

I have captured the PRWeb results directly from my private tracking URL to fully demonstrate impact. We will then discuss SERP changes during the recent GOOGLE "Bourbon" Update on 3 keyphrases.

Before going on let me tweak your interest with this Press Release Stat Capture Graphic
(Note this graphic is in png format because it is 26K as opposed to 95K for a comperable 80% quality jpeg.) In case anyone has problems viewing a png, here are the basics:

Press Release Title:
"Two New Laser Maching Centers Come On Line, Two More Planned"

Release Date May, 18th, 2005 (one month)
Reads: 33,447
Estimated Journalist "Pick-Ups": 450

Since publication this client's GOOGLE SERPs went from-to for the following keyphrase examples:
"Laser Machining Services"; 29-12
"Laser Machining"; 252-202 (very competitive industry term)
Note: No other SEO, SEM activities occurred for this client during that period.

Many keyphrases continue to enjoy top 1-10 (first page) placement, such as "Perforating Guns", beating out $Billion Competition. Press Releases help "set and maintain" those positions.

I can't express the importance of utilizing the different available digital doors for Website Promotion enough! Many of which automate the process of acquiring "Generic" inbound links, saving "gobs" of webmaster promotional time.

"JumpStart" your press release writing. With the growing importance of "Press/News Release Writing" we have just revised our Press Release Writing Tips page. It now has more tip, product and service info.

Sure hope it helps.

Feedback on the new "article pages format" would be appreciated, if anyone has time.

Enjoy, and good luck,

Ken

Great information, greeneagle.

I was curious to see someone else's results, as compared to the testing we've done:

SEOforGoogle,

Did you know they recently picked up an "obscene" number of RSS feeds to agencies and journalists. They are "DEAD SERIOUS" and "Dead-Set" on becoming the best. They make it real easy too; no membership fees, no up-front credit cards etc... They are running over the competition, in my mind.

IMHO - They are a great Site Owner, Webmaster, user-friendly business partner, with the best business model on the market.

Have you also experienced similar SERP benefits, seemingly attributable to a Press Release promotion?

"Have you also experienced similar SERP changes?"

- Absolutely. Besides a significant bump in the serps (from hovering in the 700's to the 40's), they also got more search engine traffic for the title of the press release -

So, there's no doubt in my mind that every SEO company should use the Press Release as part of their arsenal.

Default PRWeb at what level?

When you put your press releases on PRWeb, what level of sponsorship do you recommend?

I'm willing to pay for expected results, but I don't want to snap my shoestring marketing budget.

Thanks for spreading the wisdom around.

This one was at the $120 level. We recommend $120-$200 to start.

I've found with PRWeb that the release is still distributed within 2 days even if you don't pay for it. Mind you, I try not to do that since the service gets to places I couldn't even think of reaching and has bailed a client's ass out on more than one occasion.

We just released one with PRWeb yesterday. So far, we have 7,000 reads and over 60 pickups. This is only in about 6 hours. It is also in Google and Yahoo news at the top for several very competitive search terms.

Is there any way to get an anchor text link from a press release.

The benefits are clearly scaled at multiple contribution levels.

Keep us posted Jestep.

It will be interesting to see your results.

I wrote a nice one for another client today covering a patent award and subsequent product development.

I believe we are going in at the $180 level.

Day 2

24801 Reads
175 Pickups
5 Prints

Also, we only used a $30 donation for our first Press Release.

Interesting topic!

I actually wrote my 1st press release 2 days ago (it was distributed on June 23rd) and I paid $40 (through PRWeb), because I wanted to have thumbnail views of my images.

Like I said, it was my first release ever, wrote it myself, and I was bit scared as to how it would be received, since English isn't my first language. However, my release got an editorial score of 4, and in those 2 days I have had:

28,705 Reads
221 Pickups
5 Prints

I mean, how is this even possible? I still can't believe that that number is accurate..

We've used the free level of PR Web when launching a new web site for a client. When we review the stats, it's surprising how many visitors come in from the PR Web link.

After reading this post, I think we need to consider the paid submission! Thanks for the info.
